AMG Review of Straight No Chase
Stephen Thomas Erlewine
All Music GuideIt was a long time between Parental Advisory's first album, Ghetto Street Funk, and their second, Straight No Chase. In between those two records, they shortened their name to P.A. and decided to pursue a live rap sound. The makeover was a success -- Straight No Chase is a brilliantly funky, unpredictable record that veers between street hip-hop, soul, rock and funk. It's a little chaotic, a little all over the place, but that's its charm -- P.A. attempts a lot of different styles and pulls nearly all of them off, which is quite a remarkable feat.
