All Music GuideEver since 1956, trombonist Papa Bue Jensen has led his Viking Jazz Band in Copenhagen. The 25th anniversary album features his lineup of the period (with trumpeter Ole Stolle, clarinetist Jorgen Svare, pianist Jonne Jensen, bassist Jens Solund, and drummer Soren Houlind) in typically spirited form on a variety of vintage standards. The best are "Panama," "Maple Leaf Rag," "Blue Turning Grey Over You," "Saturday Night Function," and "Clarinet Marmalade." The strong front line and the solid rhythm section combine to create enjoyable and swinging rad jazz, showing why the band has been able to last for so many decades.
