Big Boi and Dre will both be releasing solo albums within the next 7 months (!!!), and will follow that up with a full fledged Outkast album in '09.
Big and Dre both spoke with MTV on separate occasions and echoed the same sentiments about their plans. "We got a few songs we already picked out," Big explained. "We pick the beats first. I drop my [solo album] in July, Dre puts his out [later this year], and we drop that Outkast record at the top of [next] year."

When you think about rap music, visuals of people in tights prancing around don't usually accompany your thoughts. Big Boi of Outkast will be fusing the two this week with his collab with the Atlanta Ballet Co. This New York Times article takes a look at the odd pairing....
"Professor Michael Eric Dyson, echoing several young Atlanta artists who weighed in on the project, sees in “big” an opportunity for hip-hop to re-examine some of its more self-destructive tendencies,... MORE

If I were forced to pick my top 5 hip hop videos of all time, B.O.B would be an automatic lock to make the list. The imagery and unpredictable nature of everything you witness is ... crazy. I don't know who thought of the concept for this, or how exactly the treatment came to fruition but I'd love to be a fly on the wall in that meeting. The grass is purple, the ground is green, there are baboons in the back of a moving 18 wheeler with strippers, what's not to love?

I don't have much to add here in a literary sense, but I was going through my music yesterday trying to clean it up a bit (18,000+ songs kept me busy) and I came across this track. I remember when this came out, sometime around my sophomore year of high school, and I absolutely loved it. My friends were not into hip hop at the time, but I begged and pleaded with them to listen to it. They eventually became wiser and warmed to it, and that made me happy.... MORE

Maybe it's time to stop sipping on that sizzurp... We can't afford to keep losing soldiers yo. Sad news broke today that Outkast's road manager, Chase Tatum, was found dead in his Atlanta home on Sunday March 23rd. Cause of death is suspected to be an overdose on painkillers that Tatum had become dependent on after suffering back injuries from his championship wrestling career. The manager/wrestler/actor was preparing to enter rehab next week, but didn't make it. R.I.P C... MORE

Well, technically this is a Big Boi song featuring Andre 3000 and Raekwon. Which probably means this is going on Big Boi's upcoming untitled solo album. The style of the song definitely fits into the "pre-aquemini" days of Outkast, so if you're a longtime fan you'll love this one. In the meantime, rehearsals for Big Boi's collaboration with the Atlanta Ballet Co. have already started. The production of "Big" takes place April 10-13 at the Fox Theatre.

One half of Outkast, Andre 3000 previewed his years-in-the-making clothing line during New York's fashion week. The debuting line, called Benjamin Bixby (taken from his full name Andre Benjamin), contains some 70 pieces, which the Atlanta MC plans on selling at Barneys New York and other high-end stores.
Benjamin Bixby has a collegiate and athletic theme and was inspired by football players from back in the thirties. Speaking with New York Magazine, Andre Benjamin descri... MORE

Big Boi of Outkast recently sat down with Vibe Magazine and shed a little light on the status of Outkast. It appears the guys will be releasing solo albums next, but they won't be packaged together like Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. Big Boi says his new album will be titled Sir Luscious Left Foot (how great is that) and will be released in the first quarter of '08.
"It's coming along great, man. I'm going to put 12 songs on there, I'm finished with like ni... MORE

Andre 3000's career in entertainment continues with Battle in Seattle, a film covering the infamous protest of the World Trade Organization in the late 90s. During the WTO meeting in Seattle, a diverse group of demonstrators, including environmental activists, doctors, anarchists, and people dressed as turtles brought the city to a state of near-chaos.
The movie also stars Woody Harrelson, Michelle Rodriguez, Charlize Theron, and Ray Liotta. The film is set for a Marc... MORE

'twas the night before Halloween. Dusk came earlier looking for autumnal mischief. Though there were no jack-o'-lanterns in the air, you could sense the dead had arisen and were walking with their distinctive empty glares...
