Today I was listening to Velvet Underground's Venus in Furs....and as a writer, loved the contradictory nature of the title of the song and decided to look up its derivation. I never understood why some artists choose such weird for their songs. Usually the ones that do happen to be good its just slightly harder for us music aficionados to remember.

I am so obsessed with Of Montreal's cover of this: which is M.I.A.'s cover of this: which is Parvati Khan from the movie Disco Dancer. Actually I'm obsessed with all of them. Every Time I hear this song it makes me wanna dance around the room with my lady!

There were a lot of good albums in 2007. And I mean a lot. I listened to as many as I could, but the sheer volume of good music that was released was at once overwhelming and heart warming. I was thrilled to be surrounded by all this artful sound, but also intimidated by the mass amounts.
In the end, I suppose it was a good thing.

With all the fallout for Of Montreal's song "Wraith Pinned To The Mist And Other Games" being used in an Outback Steakhouse commercial as well as a recent T-Mobile video shoot which featured the band, fans are learning that the group is making a effort to, well, cash in. The list of nominees for the 2008 PLUG awards, dedicated to recognizing media and music in the independent community, has been announced. The top nominees for this year are Of Montreal, Battles, Dan Deacon. The chick from Bat For Lashes pops up a few times on the ballot, as do Radiohead (they're indie now), Arcade Fire, The National and Spoon. The 2008 awards show will take place March 6th in New York City. Artists and presenters will be announced in the future.
