Definitely Maybe

Definitely Maybe manages to encapsulate much of the best of British ock & roll -- from the Beatles to the Stone Roses -- in the space of 11 songs. Oasis' sound is louder and more guitar-oriented than any British band since the Sex Pistols, and the band is blessed with the excellent songwriting of Noel Gallagher. Gallagher writes perfect pop songs, offering a platform for his brother Liam's brash, snarling vocals. Not only does the band have melodies, but they have the capability to work a groove with more dexterity than most post-punk groups. But what makes Definitely Maybe so intoxicating is that it already resembles a greatest-hits album. From the swirling rush of "Rock 'n' Roll Star," through the sinewy "Shakermaker," to the heartbreaking "Live Forever," each song sounds like an instant classic.

Is Liam's voice going the same way as his hair?!

Watching Oasis perform at The Brits earlier this week a few things occurred to me:1 - Liam is going bald - check out the monk spot developing2 - He doesn't seem to be able to sing anymore - he's just shouting3 - The band sound better than ever - shame Liam has finally turned into a walking caricatureHere's a clip form 90s TV show The White Room, when his voice wasn't just a sneer...

in 8th grade, when Oasis released Definitely Maybe, I really did think they were the greatest fucking thing in the world. the thrill actually died for me a bit by the time Morning Glory was released. it's all about that first album for me. the song "Slide Away" was initially, always has been and always will be my favorite Oasis track of all time. I don't know what it is about it. it tears ...

I'm going out on a limb here, but I have to say that "Slide Away" by Oasis is the most beautiful song Mssr. Noel Gallagher has ever written.I've become so wary of the British musical press (NME, I'm looking right at you...) because of their ridiculous compulsion towards overhyping every Razorlight as the next Beatles. But I think they were wholly vindicated of going bonkers over the Mancunian l...

Is it my imagination, or have we finally found something worth living for?

This song sounds like such a cross of the Rolling Stones and the Sex Pistols.

This song pretty much sums up my Halloween night. San Diego goes off for Halloween. The adults are way more into it then the kids. It was fun, but my head hurts. Hope every one had a great night.Does anyone out there think this song sounds a lot like T.Rex's "Bang a Gong"???

Noel Gallagher Inteview From 1994 , Just Released
2 months ago

Just before the release of Definitely Maybe, Caspar Llewellyn Smith caught up with Noel Gallagher to find out about scraps with Liam, spats with Suede and why people would still be listening to his band's debut album in 20 years' time. Here, for the first time, we publish the whole interviewOasis' Noel Gallagher with little brother Liam: 'If he ever acted like Brett Anderson I'd take off my gui...

Concerts That I Regret Not Attending (Part II)

**Oasis @ The Uptown Bar 14 October 1994**Part II of IV (A Trilogy in Four Parts)My friend Marc Mueller was trying to get recruits for this show - as I remember it, it was an ID show and he wasn't quite 21, so the plan was to hang out there early in the day before they start carding people at the door (the venue was as a diner style restaurant by day). To be honest, I was very late coming aroun...
