————————————————————We’re sad to report that last night Noah and the Whale had all of their instruments and tour equipment stolen from Trinity Way NCP car park in Manchester. At some point between midnight and 11am this morning, the band’s trailer was taken containing all the equipment listed below, most of which is of great sentimental [...]
London-based Noah and the Whale plans to celebrate the U.S. release of their second album with select tour dates.First Days of Spring, slated for a Oct. 6 release through Cherrytree/Interscope, is actually a two-part project. Singer and songwriter Charlie Fink not only led the album’s direction toward greater introspection and lush orchestration, but he also [...]
Written by: Dallas MeckIn a dimly lit Brooklyn bar Noah and the Whale captivate the venue with a U.S. farewell. It’s hard to imagine five band mates that produce the orchestral sounds of their latest album, First Days of Spring. Armed with knobs, pedals, buttons and a toothbrush, instruments are transformed into multidimensional sounds. New richness and texture illuminate heartache and passion, .
There are a few great film/album mashups. Two of the more obvious ones are Wizard of Oz/Dark Side of the Moon and Toy Story/OK Computer synchronizations. But rare is the instance of finding a film inspired by and created completely in an album’s image – an album that stands alone, but also perfectly scores [...]
London based Noah and the Whale have created wistfully gentle indie/anti/nu/pop-folk sound only since 2006. The band, Charlie Fink (vocals, guitar, harmonica, ukulele), Tom Hobden (fiddle), Urby Whale (harmonium, bass), and Doug Fink (drums), say that in addition to folk they find influence in punk (but who doesn't). Critics have compared Noah and the Whale to Belle & Sebastian, Neutral Milk ...
Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down by Noah And The Whale is a pretty solid album. That debut LP defined the band as one not above having fun despite songs of a less than sunny disposition. My one complaint, actually, was the song that cemented them in popularity, “5 Years Time”, as it was contrary to the overall tone of the album. Noah And The Whale’s sophomore release, The First Days Of Sp

Photo by Frank YangEnglish quartet Noah & The Whale rolled into the Horseshoe on Tuesday night for a free show, though given the moderate amount of buzz surrounding them and their just-released debut Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down , they could have charged for tickets. Not a whole lot, but some. But the intention surrounding this tour appears to be to garner goodwill for the band and the...
Stick a glockenspiel, a ukulele and a few handclaps on a young folk-pop quartet and voila, the claim of new Neutral Milk Hotel is easy to throw around. Add a reference to a Wes Anderson movie and you've got yourself something that's either very easy to dismiss as contrived or very easy to love. There's [...]
Photo via Noah & The WhaleAnother day, another English "anti-" folk act coming to town soon. Today is dedicated to London quartet Noah & The Whale , who are on tour across North America and will be at the Horseshoe on Tuesday night for a free show (on at 10:50PM). Calling them folk, no matter what the prefix attached, is actually a bit misleading. Though the tools of their trade - acoustic...
The title track from Noah And The Whales latest record 'The First Days Of Spring' has just been given a new video and considering they were twittering sweetly about love with Laura Marling just one year ago, they seem to have grown up considerably since then.
