Nirvana was a popular American rock band originating from Aberdeen, Washington. With the lead single "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from their 1991 album Nevermind, Nirvana exploded into the mainstream, bringing along with it a subgenre of alternative rock called grunge. I dig out Nirvana's Unplugged CD today, as inspiration for my guitar-learning. It's been a while since any music really affected me, but this CD just hit the spot. Cobain's voice just kills me. In 1989 when Nirvana released Bleach, my roommate at the time, Chanin (pronounced Shannon), and I picked up the vinyl and we spun that thing at least three times a day for months on end ... inbetween our two other faves -- Screaming Trees' Buzz Factory, and Mudhoney's debut. 2It's really not okay how one can be exploited by another for money. If you truly loved this person, why go about everything the way you are carrying on? How else do we honor Kurt Cobain, but by marketing the shoe he killed himself in with his name on it. Yes, Converse will release a new limited edition series of shoes decorated with the late Nirvana frontman's drawings and writing from his 2002 book Journals. The kicks are out this May.

A new documentary about Kurdt Cobain will hit DVD on February 19th. "Kurt Cobain: About A Son" is based on audio interviews between the Nirvana star and the writer Michael Azerrad in which Kurdt (chosen spelling of his own name) tells stories about his life.
The conversations between these two add up to 25 hours of audio which Azerrad based his book "Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana". According to a report in Prefix Mag:

I'd forgotten why I like Nirvana so much, and not because of their grungie loud sound but because of Kurt Cobain's amazing lyrics and songs like this one,where you can almost feel his feeling of depression and lonelyness through his unique and raspy voice.

There were only 10-20 people hanging out at Penny Lane when Nirvana made an impromptu stop there in 1989. A rough incomplete set list has been compiled by www.nirvanaguide.com Set which includeds songs like: Floyd The Barber, About A Girl, Paper Cuts, Negative Creep, Blew. The Notebook really must have struck a chord with Courtney Love. Kurt Cobain's widow has her heart set on the flick's star, Ryan Gosling, to portray her late husband in the new film about his life, Heavier Than Heaven. The film is based on the Cobain biography by music historian Charles Cross, which Love will be on hand for as an executive producer. Love also expressed that she wants starlet Scarlett Johansson to play her in the flick.

Today, the legendary Nirvana MTV Unplugged show will be released, unedited, on DVD . I had somehow missed the news about this. I am soooo excited you guys, I have wanted to own a copy of this performance for...well...about 14 years. At one time I had half of it recorded on VHS , but that thing is long gone. YouTube and the occasional MTV replay have gotten me through, but the audiophile in me will not be satisfied until I have that 5.1 surround. ... MORE
