Let's hope they have an ultra-lux tour bus becuse the boys of NIN will be on the road for the rest of the year. As they wrap up the last leg of their summer tour, the band has added a slew of North-American fall dates to help promote their new album The Slip which was released online this May. Taking a page out of Radiohead's book of free marketing, NIN released the album to wide acclaim for free. More here. Tour Dates:

Nine Inch Nails has made its new ten-song, 44-minute minute album entitled The Slip available for free download at www.nin.com (free signup required). The new set includes the songs "Echoplex" and "Discipline" which were both posted online during the last couple of weeks ahead of the new album release. Trent Reznor released the instrumental "Ghosts I-IV" album online on March 2. The two-hour collection of 36 untitled instrumental tracks was made available in various high... MORE
Nine Inch Nails, amazing as usual. Um. first of all...here is pretty photo that i did some stuff to in photoshop. I didn't' have a great angle but here it is----trent in the flesh... First of all...THE BAND RULES RIGHT NOW. SO BAD. Robin Finck--welcome back! Oh how everyone has missed you, and along with Trent--you're looking healthy and strong! Then there is the always dependable Alessandro Cortini on the keyboards, and Josh Freese on the drums. ...and who is the ... MORE
Trent Reznor would like you to know that "This one's on me." No, he isn't buying you a round of Cinco De Mayo margaritas (bummer), instead the Nine Inch Nails frontman is giving away the band's new album The Slip for free. So, now you'll have more money for gas. The Slip is available right now as a free download at NIN.com. The band is looking to release a physical CD and vinyl in July. The queer thing about the press release was the line that read:"The Slip" marks the fir... MORE
Nice shiny title for a review don’t you think? The new NIN album is called ‘The Slip’ and all. Thought I’d use it before someone else does. Actually it refers not only to the album itself but also to the fact that Reznor is giving it to you in its entirety for free (in case you haven't heard), on his official site, at the quality level of your choice, with nothing required but an email address. A first for any artist of Nine Inch Nails’ stature. So has Trent Reznor slip... MORE
Much has been made of Nine Inch Nails' new album being given away for free. And I do applaud Mr. Reznor for continuing down the digital road he's on....however... The Slip just isn't very good. It sounds as though he had a bunch of B-Sides laying around and put them together. There's no inventiveness in the sounds. It all sounds like well-recorded demos. It's a particular dissapointment coming on the heels of Ghosts, which seemed a much more considered, mature work. He... MORE
I plan to review this album in detail soon, but for now I just have to say that Trent Reznor's level of productivity over the past few years and ability to stay relevant and innovative over a long career is impressive to say the least...

A good friend of mine passed along a pretty amazing graphic from the Nine Inch Nail's website. It's a Google Earth KML file that represents how many people have downloaded "The Slip" by geographic region. According to the NIN website , just over 1.4 million people have downloaded it since its release on May 5th. The map also only represents downloads that went through NIN website.
