Nightmares on Wax - Thought So...

Even if it doesn't quite represent the grand tour Nightmares On Wax originally envisaged, Thought So at least provides an enjoyable detour or two.~~

The thing I like about techno (I gave up on genre names after electronica and can no longer keep up, so I'll use techno as a generic name until I break that rule) is that at its best it can transport you to other places.Just Close Your EyesForget the WorldForget the PeopleOkay, its got a beat and you're meant to dance to it, but I never had the freedom to go out and do much dancing when I had t...

This song seems unidentifiable as to exact sub genre, which is why it is so awesome. I first heard the little operatic sample when it was lifted by Buddy Peace and ZILLA for the amazing Warp Records mash up 'Watch and Repeat Play'. This tune is worlds more exciting than N.O.W.'s current down-tempo diaspora. In my world I would call it Hip-House, but with the disco vocal in the bridge and the alm...

Nightmares On Wax have been a big favorite for me throughout the years, but this time they've really blown me away. And they did it with a mixtape. My Definition is a mix of tracks that the Nightmares dig or have gained influences from over the years. The result is a buttery smooth blend of soulful beats, old school hip hop rhymes, and groovin' reggae bass-lines. Next time I'm planning on r...

Nightmares on Wax - In a Space Outta Sound

Suddenly, I am in Trenchtown with a young Bob as he experiments with Ska. His fingers are making their way across the strings of his guitar when I notice he’s sitting on an 18 inch woofer. Wait a second. When did Bob have dual turntables and those light effects? That’s when I realize that Nightmares on Wax have reinvented themselves, once again.Nightmares on Wax have always been impressive wit

MOG History 101:Let's Review

A little reading and writing music from NOW.One constant of MOG is that there are always new folks coming aboard. Except for the charter members from '06, we arrived here newbies and found the music world we were looking for. We found folks scarily (and inticingly) informed, witty and all about the music. Once you decided to start posting and commenting though, this place became a lot more than...

MOG Therapy: Session 2, Crawling Around In The Dark ......

I'm finding the need to be deeply philosophical. Reaching for the right words and measuring time by seconds. I'm counting the seconds it takes to tie my shoes, counting the seconds it takes me to pick out a shirt, counting the seconds until the next big thing. I am in a holding pattern, unable to do much but think and watch the clock. Shit. Finding a frame, I drew myself a pictue.Don't mind me...

I was wrong about Nightmares On Wax

I put something up by NOW several months back and proclaimed that I only liked their old-school rave stuff and not any of the more current downtempo and groove influenced stuff. I believe it was Cody B who pointed out that the newer stuff was actually enjoyable. Well, you were right. I am not totally around the bend, but these two tracks certainly add to the pleasure of this Wednesday.

Yes, it's that time of the week where we all pretend like we're doing shit at work when we're really looking for the ultimate time killer in this thing called the internet and when that final bell rings, we all scurry to the door like our desks are on fire.I don't mind Fridays at work because: A) I typically don't do a damn thing.B) Half of my co-workers "work from home", so I basically have ...
