I was just going through my CDs and came across the New Radicals. This is the opening track to their only album. Most people know their hit "You Get What You Give" but the whole album is really great from start to finish. Despite songs like "I Don't Wanna Die Anymore" it's the kind of music that warms on a chilly day.
I can still remember playing this record to the point of making my friends totally hate it. I think I even burned out eventually...but revisiting it today I realized why I liked it so much. It was released in the tale end of 98...as the grunge movement was stumbling to the finish line...there is a really positive vibe on this album, that while pretentious at times, still makes me smile. I am always interested in bands like this. They make one album and then never record ... MORE
I'm continually reminded as to why I loathe technology so much. I love my iPod dearly, and I've been overjoyed since I found it after it's 6 month loss, but today... today I mourn the loss of something more important than the physical iPod itself. The AudPod has eaten my music. I took it out of my purse during study hall today, only to find the thing completely cleared. Not one song remained. I wept a little inside. The whole CD was great, I had it when I was 13, but I lost it when I moved, and haven't managed to replace it yet :( . This isn't the best song, but it's still very good. I wish I could track down a video for "Mother, We Just Can't Get Enough."
For mostly everyone who lives, breathes, eats and thinks music, there is a small subset of songs in their collection that one values above all the others - not necessarily because you listen to those songs all the time, but because they helped to shape and refine your love towards music, appeared just at the right time in your life, or somehow connect to something you hold dear. There's the song you connect with your first love, the one you survived with after the first ... MORE
While reading Known Human's wonderfully written post...I kept hearing this New Radicals song playing in my head...anyone else experience this phenomenon?
