Back in 2007, nobody was exactly sure whether synthpop gods New Order were broken up or not. Bassist Peter Hook said that they were; everyone else in the band said they weren't.Well, it's official now: New Order are broken up. The BBC reports that the non-Peter Hook members of the group have a new group with a new name: Bad Lieutenant. And they've also got themselves a new bassist. (via NME)Bad...
I think we've been pretty clear at Down With Tyranny that we don't like the temptation legislators who take immense sums of money from special interests in annual "donations"-- and then vote on the very bills those special interests consider downright existential-- face. The Financial/Insurance/Real Estate sector has invested more in Congressional campaigns than any other sector in the economy...

Despite going over the heads of all of the mainstream music publications, fans spotted around three-hundred errors with the releases, including prominent hisses and crackles on...

Alas, if Peter Hook is to be believed, last time I checked, New Order are no longer together. Funny thing seems to be that it was Anton Corbjin's suggestions about the Control soundtrack that helped bring the band to it's knees. Ironic that the man who took some of the most iconic shots of the band, and did their most iconic video (for "Atmosphere"), somehow accidentally helped "off" the band...
I guess the peer pressure got to me so I am going to give this little story about me thing a whirl. Geez, hard to put 35 years of living onto one page but I will do my best. Was born in Chicago, guess that is where my love of Chicago sports teams comes from. At an early age my parents moved to Shoreview, Minnesota for the sole reason of not having my brother and I growing up in the harsh reali...
'Songbook' is a UK TV program where various musicians explain and demonstrate how they wrote famous songs in their career. Last week it was the turn of Bernard Sumner.Along the course of a 30 year career there were some interesting insights (Joy Division's distinctive bass sound happened because Bernard had his cheap amp turned up loud to get distortion and Peter Hook moved to the top strings ...
Well, I'm down. I think it's been minutes since I've listened to the most awesome slice of music the 12-inch format ever transmitted.(OK, so it's the '88 version, it still kills.)
Earlier this week I found myself talking to fellow mogger Anna about covers of New Order and Joy Division tunes. We decided to each post a list of popular, or not so popular covers of each of these bands. I had to claim New Order as my own, seeing they have to be my all time favorite band. I made a post a while back on covers, and how they can be received poorly by fans of the original band. I ...
