Spin this as you read:It was only yesterday I was rawkin' out to some Kraftwerk "supplied by fellow Mogger Groon,":http://mog.com/Groon/blog_post/153957 and today news hits that one of the band's early drummers Klaus Dinger (German name much?) has passed.Dinger, who pioneered 'Krautrock' aka the German experimental music scene, died of heart failure on March 21st just four days shy of his 62nd ...
My family has been planning a trip from Charleston, SC, to Indianapolis for a while now. We had talked about camping, and maybe buying a used camper or something. One night, in what can only be described as an ebay-induced fit, I bought one online with the intention of going to pick it up.Did I mention? It's in Wyoming! So, now we are adding a stop along the way to Indy, swinging by Deadwood,...
There's a special charity event coming up at Oxford, England's Carling Academy that features two pioneers of experimental music and Krautrock. Michael Rother, formerly of Neu! and Kraftwerk (during their pre-electronica incarnation), and Dieter Mobius, who is a member of Cluster, will perform together to help raise money for the charity organization, Shelter. The all-day event is part of the ...
How could one band be so influential? Neu! only put out three albums, but anyone who is listening knows that those three albums helped to change the face of modern music. Neu! is credited, along with Kraftwerk and some others, of basically starting down the road which would lead to New Wave in the late 70’s. The first album has some of the greatest proto-new wave riffs, perfect for driving. .
I'm pretty tired. Most of the time I am pretty tired. I am usually pretty tired. My typical state can be described as one of being "pretty tired." All in all, I'd have to say I'm pretty tired.I'm also kind of tired of verbal misunderstandings. I'm kind of tired of being held responsible for the way my words are interpreted. It's kind of a drag, really.I'm also a little bit tired of saying...
Neu! is one of my favorite bands of all time. Their sound is so raw, so inventive. I have their albums 1 and 2 on constant rotation on my playlists. This new live video surfaced recently on YouTube, I caught it on the Arthur Magazine blog, Magpie. Thanks to those guys for pointing it out. It's a bit short, but it does the trick. If I could go back in time with a video camera, these guys w...
For my money, the art of the road-trip has always resided in the proper choice of music. It sets the tone, prepares the mindset and regulates the energy level for what could potentially be a real drag if the only thing in the car is your sisters Celine {{shudder}} Dion tapes. Once I reach the middle of nowhere and dusk is on the horizon I like to bring down the tone and slip into "hypnotic dri...
If not for Stereolab and Sonic Youth, I never would have paid attention to Neu, which were huge influences on those groups. Now, I can't get enough of Neu. Don't know what it is about getting older, but the more I discover about lesser-know or obscure 70's groups, the more I realize that's all I want to listen to. Big Star, New York Dolls, Wire.Anyone seen the documentary, "New York Doll", a...
Neu! drummer Klaus Dinger passed away recently and I thought it would be good to wish him on his way with my first post. His propulsive beat still sounds fresh to me today. I think I will be listening to his music for a long time.Dinger also played on the first Kraftwerk album, and formed La Dusseldorf. Here is the obit from Billboard. Thanks for the music, Klaus. Check out "Fur Immer" from ...
Neu! founder member Michael Rother has defended the inclusion of the Oasis track "I Can See It Now" on a compilation album paying tribute to the krautrockers. "Brand Neu!" was released in May, but the compilation was...
The Quietus' man of metal Dr Rock recently interviewed kosmische legend Michael Rother ....During the course of the interview, Rother was asked about his thoughts on the Brand Neu! compilation, released earlier this year to much hoo-ha and complaints from Neu! fans upset at the inclusion of Oasis track 'I Can See It Now'.But it seems as if the man from Neu! himself isn't with the haters: "I ver...
