Spin this as you read: It was only yesterday I was rawkin' out to some Kraftwerk supplied by fellow Mogger Groon, and today news hits that one of the band's early drummers Klaus Dinger (German name much?) has passed. Dinger, who pioneered 'Krautrock' aka the German experimental music scene, died of heart failure on March 21st just four days shy of his 62nd birthday. In the early 70s Kraftwerk's line-up fluctuated often with Dinger and guitarist Michael Rother ... MORE

Neu! drummer Klaus Dinger passed away recently and I thought it would be good to wish him on his way with my first post. His propulsive beat still sounds fresh to me today. I think I will be listening to his music for a long time.
Dinger also played on the first Kraftwerk album, and formed La Dusseldorf. Here is the obit from Billboard.
Thanks for the music, Klaus. Check out "Fur Immer" from Neu!'s second album. It means "forever".
I'm pretty tired. Most of the time I am pretty tired. I am usually pretty tired. My typical state can be described as one of being "pretty tired." All in all, I'd have to say I'm pretty tired. I'm also kind of tired of verbal misunderstandings. I'm kind of tired of being held responsible for the way my words are interpreted. It's kind of a drag, really. I'm also a little bit tired of saying things that go unheard. I'm a little bit tired of passing off informatio... MORE
There's a special charity event coming up at Oxford, England's Carling Academy that features two pioneers of experimental music and Krautrock. Michael Rother, formerly of Neu! and Kraftwerk (during their pre-electronica incarnation), and Dieter Mobius, who is a member of Cluster, will perform together to help raise money for the charity organization, Shelter. The all-day event is part of the Audioscope festival and takes place on 10 November. Rother and Mobius will also... MORE
Neu" /> is one of my favorite bands of all time. Their sound is so raw, so inventive. I have their albums 1 and 2 on constant rotation on my playlists. This new live video surfaced recently on YouTube, I caught it on the Arthur Magazine blog, Magpie. Thanks to those guys for pointing it out. It's a bit short, but it does the trick. If I could go back in time with a video camera, these guys would definitely be on my Live Music Journal!
Did I mention? It's in Wyoming!
So, now we are adding a stop along the way to Indy, swinging by Deadwood, SD to pick this bad boy up. It's a bit of a detour, but hey, with three kids i... MORE
If not for Stereolab and Sonic Youth, I never would have paid attention to Neu, which were huge influences on those groups. Now, I can't get enough of Neu. Don't know what it is about getting older, but the more I discover about lesser-know or obscure 70's groups, the more I realize that's all I want to listen to. Big Star, New York Dolls, Wire. Anyone seen the documentary, "New York Doll", about New York Doll's bassist, Aurther "Killer" Kane? Terribly heartbreaking,... MORE
