Which song kinda disturbs ya?

Blog post image preview Top spot in my heebee-geebee list goes to Neko Case’s _Hold On, Hold On_. The pitch black heart of an artful, tuneful, and downright beautiful country rock album, Fox Confessor Brings The Flood. The song narrowly beat out the entire back catalogue of Antony Johnson, the possessor of a voice so heart-sinkingly mournful that I’ve yet to find the right time of day, or indeed, year to listen to him properly. Sadly he was just _too_ disturbing. _Hold On, Hold On_ depicts a ... MORE

Blog post image preview I often don't like to dissect music and try to figure out things about it, I just like to let the music do the talking. Neko Case has a beautiful talent.

Neko Case finds her own voice while branching out

“I need a cup of tea.” Neko Case had just jumped into a car taking her to soundcheck for her Chicago show Wednesday afternoon and was yawning her way through an interview. Over a year after “Fox Confessor Brings the Flood,” her fifth and best selling album, was released, Case remains on the road supporting that disc, which was among the best reviewed records of 2006.Was she surprised by the way the record was received? “Well, yeah, definitely,” Case said. “You never ... This song's strong, Southern, story-telling quality reminds me of Appalachian stories told around a pot-bellied stove during long winters when there is nothing to do but wait out the winter. It reminds me of something deeply personal, too. When I first moved to Asheville, North Carolina from Florida, I was 12 years old and full of shit. I thought I knew what was coming next when I stared up at the Blue Ridge Mountains, thinking I could conquer anything. I was so wrong. ... MORE

Blog post image preview So a while ago, I got Neko Case's latest album, "Fox Confessor Brings The Flood". I'd heard some New Pornographers stuff before (of which she is a member) and liked it, so was interested in her solo music. Well, I love this album - it's very country though, which was a bit surprising if expecting something like the New Pornographers. The thing is, if you'd asked me 10 years ago what my most hated style of music was, I probably would have said country! Now, I look thro... MORE

Blog post image preview Just thought i'd drop a quick post conscerning my rescent encounter with the Fox Confessor album. Life threw yours truly a curve ball recently and Neko Case really took the edges off. I know how much praise this album has recieved all over the mogs, but it might deserve even more. Nothing else really compares too it's haunting harmonies and sultry choir girl crooning. The music is complex enough to appeal to the snobs (like me) and wholesome enough to work it's mystisism o... Blog post image preview Okay I think I've got it. I'm supposed to talk about music. Okay it's been a while unfortunately but the most recent CD I bought was Neko Case's Fox Confessor Brings the Flood. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give it a G. In other words me likey. Neko has a beautifully deep voice that I really like...plus it's folksy, country...which I am very much into these days. So I would recommend it to all! Go forth and purchase!

I had the divine pleasure of attending the Neko Case show at the Rio Theater in Santa Cruz this weekend. Let me just say I fell in love SOOOO many times that night... So many times. Neko has a voice that moves like a bullet through molasses and leaves the soul wanting nothing. And her hair!!! It's like god gave her a couple strokes with a highlighter as if to say, "You need to check this girl out, NOW!!!!" Her ensemble was equally amazing. The banter between Neko & Kelly... MORE
