I have long liked this song. Nat King Cole's trio was one of the high-points of American music. He would later scale greater commercial heights, I find his music of this era to be the most honest presentation of his vision. The silky smooth vocals of course, but the music! Ah the music!Tight, cool, & adventurous, like a well aged scotch, their communication sometimes bordered on telepathic. Na...

Christmas in July

When all is said and done, there is really only one Christmas song. On KCRW back in the 80s, vocalist Mel Torme talked about how he wrote the song. Of all the great singer since the 1950's or so he is hardly in the top 75

"Well it goes from St. Louie down to Missouri Oklahoma City, looks oh so pretty You'll see Amarillo and Gallup, New Mexico Flagstaff, Arizona don't forget Winona Kingman, Barstow, San Bernadino"The song is sixty years old, and the road it was named after doesn't exist anymore, but Bobby Troup's tribute to the scenes along the interstate keeps getting rediscovered and retraveled. How many other s...
