AMG Review of The Second Coming
Richie Unterberger
All Music GuideThe CD reissue of Napoleon XIV's The Second Coming contains the entirety of his 1966 album They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa! with a few cuts from his unreleased second LP, "For God's Sake, Stop the Feces!" (1968), and some new recordings from 1995. Even /p>
ovelty fans may find the material too silly and unvarying, despite occasional highlights (such as they are) like "I Live in a Split-Level Head." From the available evidence, "For God's Sake, Stop the Feces!" is not an unreleased masterpiece on the order of the Beach Boys' (until recently released) SMiLE; the 1995 cuts are more conventional (and cornball) satire, with singing and piano. Fear not: the B-side of "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!," the unforgettable "!aaah-aH, yawA eM ekaT ot gnimoC er'yehT" (try saying that three times fast), is included as an unlisted bonus track.
