Musical Parings Blogspot has a very cool post with a plethora of My Brightest Diamond's covers on their site today. My favorite has to be MBD's rendition of Je N'en Connais Pas la Fin medley made famous by Jeff Buckley. Shara shines with her magnigficent voice honoring the beauty of Edith Piaf and the magic of Jeff Buckley in this amazing cover.

My Brightest Diamond rocked my world this morning with this killer cover of Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey. What makes her cover unique is the way she not only captures the essence of John Lennon's White Album original, but she also ends the song by adding lyrics from George Michael's forgotten eighties hit, Monkey. Genius. I dig the feedback and the harmonies. The Fa...

What would happen if there was a young woman who had a degree in opera, had years of vigorous vocal training under her belt, and had spent the past several years experimenting with songwriting? Imagine that this young woman grew up reading Lewis Carroll, listening to Edith Piaf, Debussy, and learning from family members including a travelling guitar-playing Evangelist, a National Accordion Cham...

wow! talk about a work ethic! The lovely Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond is more punk rock than anyone else in the headlines today. This lady dislocated her knee, but sat down and finished the rest of the set! hard-core!Asthmatic Kitty's people confirm :Shara "went for a rock jump during the song 'Magic Rabbit' and upon landing, dislocated her left knee. Worden finished out the song fro...

My Brightest Diamond is finishing a sophomore release, the follow up to 2006's Bring Me The Workhorse. The new album is called A Thousand Shark's Teeth and it will be released on Asthmatic Kitty (Sufjan Stevens' label) on June 17th if all goes well. According to a report in Prefix Mag today:Worden grabbed from disparate sources to craft the album, as "Black and Costaud" features lyrics lifted...

Shara Worden is so cute it's a bit nauseating.Thankfully, her voice and musical stylings bring much more to the table than just "cute". On her first release "Bring Me the Workhorse" under the name My Brightest Diamond, she brings us an ethereal mix of rock with undertones of her past experience in opera. That last bit about opera might make you cringe, but somehow it adds an infectious dash o...

I love poster art and I figure I might as well plug some of my favorite poster artists here. Today it's all hats off to Jason Munn, a Wisconsin transplant to Oakland, where he's been making screen-printed posters since 2003. He calls his operation "The Small Stakes." Here's a recent favorite of mine:You can see all of his work here. Visit The Small Stakes and buy a poster!

For such a small woman, Shara Worden aka My Brightest Diamond is an enormous presence once she takes the stage. She is impossibly engaging. Whether with humor or drama or simply the shear magnitude of her voice, she will comand your attention and you won't want to look away or risk a word at the peril of missing something incredible.Shara stopped by The Pop Machine to record four live in-stud...

I hate hate hate when I buy a CD on a whim and it ends up being a live CD or a remixed CD. This is exactly what I did tonight with My Brightest Diamond's "Tear It Down." I would much rather hear the original and then know the variations of that. I haven't heard "Bring Me the Workhorse" and yet I bought "Remixes for 'Bring Me the Workhorse'." I just now realized it. I'm actually not that upset,...

Shara Worden writes some of the most fanciful lyrics and creates some of the most brilliant worlds of words and music i have ever heard of. Inside a boy I found a universe And in his eyes Are a thousand stars On a dark sky We are clouds We are whispers Like fawns and shape-shifters Our edges can never be found out No, our edges keep moving further out We are stars colliding Now we crash Like ...
