All Music GuideThe proper debut album for Moodymann, Mahogany Brown alternates mellowed-out disco dubs like "Mahogany Brown" and "Stoneodenjoe" with more aggressive ech-house tracks like "Me and My People's Eyes." Though it would be nearly impossible to top A Silent Introduction, the singles compilation released one year before, Kenny Dixon, Jr. does a tremendous job skirting the slender divide between sublime Detroit techno and more soul-inflected house like the work of Terrence Parker.
