As of today, the Glaswegian's newest (out 9/23 via Matador) is streaming in full at the their MySpace. We've posted The Hawk's "The Sun Smells Too Loud" and "Batcat," but now you get to see firsthand if "I'm Jim Morrison, I'm Dead" and "I Love You, I'm Going To Blow Up Your School" live up to their billing.
Scotland's rock legend Mogwai has a new disc called The Hawk is Howling touching down on Monday, although it is streaming now at the band's MySpace page. But that deafening buzz in your ears is most likely coming from the...
I was on Ticketmaster checking out the cost of tix for various bands in San Francisco. I had heard Mogwai puts on an amazing show and saw they're going to be here in the bay area 9/08/08. Tickets were pretty reasonable at $22.50.So I'm going through the process online to find out the total end cost with all those damn fees cause I like to know what the bottom line will be. I was wavering on th...
You read it right folks, Scottish rocker Mogwai are set to auction off drummer Martin Bulloch's old pacemaker. Bulloch is reportedly recovering after having a new pacemaker fitted today. Frontman Stuart Braithwaite has posted the follwoing blog today on the group's Myspace page:In the last few hours Martin got out of theatre(sic) after getting a new heart pacemaker fitted. As we did before we w...
I am a HUGE Mogwai fan. I thought I would upload this gem from the Friend of the Night cd single. Not even avid fans get around to all of the singles of their favorite bands these days. Enjoy this wonderous b-side from just one of Mogwai's great records. Some Links:http://www.mogwai.co.uk/http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:fpfoxqehldsehttp://www.myspace.com/mogwai
I really don't know this band very well, so I've just randomly chosen a song from their "Happy Songs for Happy People" CD.Keep those cards and letters coming in. This will end our show for this evening. See you same time tomorrow, and remember, be careful out there.
Mogwai and Fuck Buttons on tour together is like a campaign against hearing. The 2 bands are becoming legends for blistering guitar-driven noise, so the idea of seeing one right after the other makes my ears throb a little. I hope all the musicians invest in those fancy earplugs before they hit the road! Nonetheless, it's an awesome pairing and should be a fantastically fun tour. Mogwai wil...
In what must surely be a herald to the approaching golden age of American life and stuff — projected by Nostradamus and a large portion of liberal pundits to occur sometime between November 4, 2008 and January 20, 2009 — there is actually good news coming from the usual total downersville known as the record industry. And it comes in the form of one of the most love stories of our time: that o
The bandEveryone's favorite Scottish prog-rock band, Mogwai, have recently released what marks the group's sixth full-length album, The Hawk is Howling. It feels strange to think that it's already been eleven years since the band released their first album Young Team in 1997—a testament of time that proves Mogwai are now among the respected, record-selling, attention-getting, chart-topping rank.
MOGWAI (Scotland, 1995)*Influences:* Joy Division, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Pink Floyd, and the post-rock pioneers Slint."They compose lengthy instrumental guitar-based pieces in the post-rock tradition, usually focused around the elaboration of a single theme, and are known traditionally for dynamic contrast, melodic bass riffs, and their use of guitar distortion and effects.":http://en.wikip...
So yeah, Mogwai has cancelled their US/Canada tour due to problems with Martin Bolluch’s (drummer) pacemaker (get well soon!), so instead of reviewing what would’ve been a pretty awesome show, I shall review their new release, The Hawk is Howling. I often feel too intimidated to review the more popular bands of post-rock, but [...]
I usually don’t post commercials on here, but i saw this last night and it’s just too sweet not to. I have been absolutely enamored with the tour de france for the first time ever (mainly because VS is covering it QUITE excellently and replaying the days stage every night at 8PM), and this commercial [...]
The cover of this album had me intruiged me for some reason, which is why I've kept ??Come On Die Young?? in my "save for later" list for like, 3 months. The guy on the cover reminds me of a zombie straight out of ??28 Days Later??. I've always had a strange fascination with zombies, and not in a Rob Zombie "b-movie" sort of way. It's the idea of the dead coming to life that scares the hell out...
