AMG Review of Enemies & Immigrants
Jason MacNeil
All Music GuideModwheelmood seem to come from a slightly different angle than bands like Nine Inch Nails and Depeche Mode. This is quite apparent with the tender, dark, and minimal electro style fueling the fine opener, "Things Will Change." It slowly builds tension but never breaks through that tension. From that point, things take a moodier turn with "Going Nowhere," a track whose title doesn't describe the song accurately. While it takes a while to find its footing, the tune sounds like a slick, polished Radiohead B-side. The group brings more of an acoustic vibe to the rather ordinary "Delay Lama," with a Beatles aura hovering above it. The highlight of the EP is the groove-tinged "Money for Good," which works quite well despite the less than outstanding chorus. Modwheelmood also shine during the concluding "Yesterday," a somewhat somber midtempo pop nugget in the vein of Keane.
