The Modern Lovers is an album inspired by The Velvet Underground, of which point man Johnathan Richman and his band mates were huge fans. On opener "Roadrunner," for example, the mix of organ and guitar create something of that VU-styled grinding harshness. It's pretty amazing that this album ( S/T ) was recorded in 1972. Sounds pretty fresh 35 years later.
