Mission Of Burma Biography

Source: Wikipedia

Mission of Burma is a post-punk band from Boston, Massachusetts, USA comprising guitarist Roger Miller, bassist Clint Conley and drummer Peter Prescott, with Bob Weston (originally Martin Swope) as tape manipulator and sound engineer. They were first active from 1979-1983, then reformed in 2002. Miller, Conley and Prescott share singing and songwriting duties, with Miller perhaps being the primary contributor.

When is a reunion show not a reunion show?
Maybe when a legendary post-punk band — out of commission for a couple of decades and then miraculously back — decides that it no longer has to play its best-known songs in the course of a night. (That's right, a Mission of Burma show with no "That's When I Reach for My Revolver", no "Photograph".) Maybe when said band stick... MORE

Mission Of Burma are one of my top favorite bands, and one of the best bands I've seen live, but it took me a little while to get around to watching Not A Photograph. It documents the resurrection of Mission of Burma in 2002, as well as their birth and early days in the 1978-83 Boston.
Anyone with even a passing interest in truly seminal post-punk should definitely check out the documentary (NetFlix has it). There's some really good archival gig footage and footage of the ... MORE

Blog post image preview Originally recorded by James Newell Osterberg, Jr and The Stooges for their album Fun House in 1970. It appears on side 2 first track. Between the original and the cover, I find it hard to decide which I like better. I myself don't have the original, maybe a kind soul will toss into comments. Props to dachmo for reminding me again how utterly cool Mission Of Burma really is. Enjoy!

_IMHO_ This is more of a love fest than a war ... but that's alright because I'm a lover not a fighter. :) In light of that, for this one I'm throwing the notion out the window that the artist has to have been a true punk pioneer ... this track is from a live show this year (couldn't find a video) and it rocks, so there!... Blog post image preview Roger Miller, guitarist of the legendary Boston based, post-punk/no-wavers Mission Of Burma has posted a classified add offering guitar lessons via Craigslist.com. Miller formally studied piano, tuba and composition and was a major contributor of the song writing detail for Mission Of Burma. The group was originally formed in 1979, the early days of post punk. They found moderate success and were primarily known for the live shows. They broke up in 1983, which some ... MORE

Apologies to anyone who's seen this before (in its raw unedited form), but here's a link to my write-up of the Mission of Burma/Oneida show that I was all excited about a few blogs ago. It was a really excellent show, and if you get a chance to see either of these bands, I'd definitely encourage you to do it. http://www.popmatters.com/pm/music/concerts/10593/mission-of-burma-oneida/... has anyone spent some quality time with a musician before? One time a few of my fellow students and I meet clint conley of mission to burma. It had nothing to do with music either. to those of those not in the know clint also has skills in the tv production business. i had no idea about his band at the time ( i was probably a sophomore in high school) but he said something along the lines of "he i;m clint conley and i use to play in a band that made alot of noise that no... Today at work was shrimp salad day. For me this meant shelling, "de-veining" and bagging like a million shrimp. This bothers me for a few reasons. -Shellfish make me itch. I'm not allergic, as far as eating them, but prepping them, I ALWAYS itch. -Tedious work sucks ass -De-veining is actually a nice way of saying removing the bowels of the shrimp, ie-shrimp poo -What did these little guys ever do to me? Nothing worth having their exterior torn off and t... MORE
