AMG Review of O Planeta Blue Na Estrada do Sol
Alvaro Neder
All Music GuideRecorded live in the first theater where Nascimento sung professionally, this album has him and his expressive vocal qualities surrounded by a small band of excellent musicians: Robertinho Silva (drums), Hugo Fattoruso (piano/accordian), Luiz Alves (bass), and Nivaldo Ornelas (saxophone/flute). No grandiloquence or orchestral tricks, just the very Nascimento's sound, a mix of the purest Brazilian tradition and jazz influences. The album has several hits, like "Vevecos, Panelas E Canelas," "Um Índio, Luar Do Sertăo" (an old song that is almost an anthem in Brazil), "Estrada Do Sol" (Tom Jobim/Dolores Durán), and "Hello Goodbye" (Lennon/McCartney). The best song, without doubt, is the hot and swinging "Cançăo Do Sal," whose strong melody made it to be appropriated by such jazzers as Stan Getz.
