Well, You Needn't

(14)

This track is from my favorite era in Miles Davis' career, funky, cool, assured, and with subtle hints of the adventurism that would follow.   * Miles Davis - Trumpet * John Coltrane - Tenor saxophone * Philly Joe Jones - Drums * Red Garland - Piano * Paul Chambers - Bass   >>>>And to whom it may concern.  Thanks for the emails & Mogmails,  I appreciate the words of encouragement,  and I laugh at the bilious screeds. Its good to know that there are... MORE

RELAXIN' WITH THE MILES DAVIS QUINTET

Artist:
Album: Cool Down!
Track:
(9)

Another favorite from The Miles Davis Quintet,  as they take on Sonny Rollins' "Oleo".  For my money John Coltrane almost steals this show.  The sense of shared adventure and simple joy of collaboration shines through so well in these sessions.  They are not so much walkin' tightropes as they are rompin'.  I've long thought of these sessions as seminal moments in the careers of both men, as they each set out on their own tortured path of discovery.  Here they pay tribu... Miles Davis Quintet - Live At The 1963 Monterey Jazz Festival

Artist:
Album:
Track:
Other Tags: George Coleman, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Tony Williams
(43)
Even only moderately obsessive Miles Davis fans may have excellent live versions, from the same era, of the tracks on this album. His sets, and their attendant releases, from 63/64/65 invariably contained wonderful versions of the songs making up the heart of this release: Autumn Leaves, So What, Stella by Starlight, and Walkin'. This fact should do little to diminish interest in or excitement about Monterey Jazz Festival Live 1963 , one of the first offerings from MJF R... MORE

Miles' "second great quintet"....with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter & Tony Williams. The tracks on this record were captured a week apart (Oct 31 and Nov 7, 1967 in Sweden and Germany) and were unreleased, I am pretty sure, until the last year or two... The track list covers the transition from the Miles standards like 'Round Midnight and Walkin' through material from E.S.P. and Miles Smiles. This band is so distinct sounding...Herbie's playing, especia... MORE

Miles and Miles and Miles of Miles

Artist:
Album: Miles Davis Quintet, 1965 - 68: The Complete Columbia Studios Recordings
Track: :
Blog post image previewI was looking around on iTunes last week and I found the best music deal I've ever seen on it a Miles Davis tune. The cut is called "Circle in the Round" which I found years ago when I get handed a gratis copy of Miles Davis Quintet, 1965 - 68: The Complete Columbia Studios Recordings. The tune (found on disc 4) clocks in at a sit-com shattering 33:35 or about .25 cents for every 7 and a half minutes...that's hella tight! A bargain, no matter where you're from! I've long b... MORE

I Want My MP3 - Miles Davis - No Blues

Artist:
Album: Kind of Blue
Track:
(46)
Blog post image previewA post from Crash referencing Miles was a good excuse to share this sublime slice, the lineup that recorded Kind Of Blue at a theatre somewhere in France. It's from a very obscure French album called 'No Blues', ripped from my friend in great taste, Murphy.
