Another favorite from The Miles Davis Quintet, as they take on Sonny Rollins' "Oleo". For my money John Coltrane almost steals this show. The sense of shared adventure and simple joy of collaboration shines through so well in these sessions. They are not so much walkin' tightropes as they are rompin'. I've long thought of these sessions as seminal moments in the careers of both men, as they each set out on their own tortured path of discovery. Here they pay tribu... MORE
Even only moderately obsessive Miles Davis fans may have excellent live versions, from the same era, of the tracks on this album. His sets, and their attendant releases, from 63/64/65 invariably contained wonderful versions of the songs making up the heart of this release: Autumn Leaves, So What, Stella by Starlight, and Walkin'. Miles' "second great quintet"....with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter & Tony Williams.
