(There's music at the very bottom of this long, meandering post, and you can skip straight to it; but i think the stuff between here and there is Interesting, or i ouldn't have posted it...)*Michelle Shocked* is not one to turn away from controversy. In fact, she often seems to delight in stirring it up (her chosen name ought to tend to confirm that). The cover photo on her first (i think) st...
A while back i did a post linking to a Blackberry commercial that asked "What if roadies ran the world?". The roadies made it at least somewhat relevant to music.Well, there's a new one in the series: "What if delivery drivers ran the world?"No music relevance, but it's fun.
I had posted this song on my page over on M & Dale commented that this was his new theme song! This is one of my fav songs by Michelle Shocked cause it's just an incredibly rockin' little song.If you don't know who Michelle Shocked is I wouldn't be surprised since she's been flying under the wire since '92. Michelle came to the spotlight back in '86 when, unbeknownst to her, "The Texas Campfire...
Here is one of those hidden gems in my collection, that when ever it pops up on shuffle....i play and repeat several times over...its just one of 'those' songs ya know? It instantly takes me back...one of the all time best reminiscing songs ever
And record companies,I believe, will suffer the same fate as our dearly departed prehistoric friends if they can't avoid the flaming, 300 ton comet THAT IS technology coming at them.Back in the early MOG days(before the nifty song uploader was a feature) I used to make these lo-fi quickie youtube videos, just to be able to share songs with people. I mean REALLY lo-fi, like this:Just a simple w...
Found Michelle here on Mog, went directly to her website and downloaded her three most recent mp3s, upbeat singer/songwriter with a conscience and a healthy sense of humor, I saw her play Newport Folk Festival a few years ago but was a fan long before that, ....I'm not a critic but I know what I like and I like Michelle's stuff! Give it a listen! http://mog.com/Michelle_Shocked
It's been a good year since anyone's posted anything from the many-minded Michelle Shocked, so I thought I'd fill that void with a few tracks from her 2007 album ToHeavenURide, a gospel set recorded live at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in 2003. Shocked is backed by a small choir from Los Angeles churches and a bumpin gospel band. "Strange Things Happening Everyday" is Shocked's cover and tr...
Today I returned to my car, parked right on the main street of town, to find a cat sitting on the hood, with no intention of moving. To make a short story long, I've written out the tale for my blog, to be accompanied by this Michelle Shocked song. It's a favourite from the unique and special Texas Campfire Tapes, and of course it popped right into my head when I met a real hep cat in person.
It's been many moons since I heard this song, not since the ex borrowed the album for work one day and lost it. (When I caught him later tiptoeing out with a Savuka album, I declared that a stop had to be put to such thievery!) Back to Come A Long Way, even upon re-listening I still think it's at the top of my All-Time Best Driving Song list.
After the artistic bonanza of 2005's CD triple-shot (the eclectic Don't Ask Don't Tell, the Disney covers Got No Strings and the Latin-influenced Mexican Standoff), Michelle Shocked returns with a passionate album of rock, folk and a touch of soul. Aside from her theme albums, the mood here is among the most focused of her catalog, nicely summed by the quote in her album's press: "I think the m...
I'm Happy again, I found, quite by chance the MOG page for Michelle shocked and from there her web site. I had been meaning to look out her "Captain Swing" album for some time, and there it was on the web site for sale.I bought it, and it arrived on Saturday. So I have been playing it for the kids, and they love it. Good catchy music with the cleverest of lines.Brings to mind The Chevalie...
We had Michelle on our tv show "Corporate Country Sucks" a while back. She was a great interview and she played 2 songs for us. You can see it on our video podcast. Go to www.corporatecountrysucks.com for links.
