It is rare for me, as a straight female, to fall head over heels in love with a woman, but at the Metric concert I fell, and I fell hard, for Emily Haines. Haines, a meteoric vocalist, demands nothing less than abject admiration and adoration, as she vocally matched and overpowered the din of the accompanying rock band with ease. All the while, she bounced across the stage in a stream of undyi...
Friday, June 12, 8pmCost: $15 (and worth every penny)Emily Haines and band mates are sure to put on an awesome show. Their latest album Fantasies will probably give them the success that Live It Out should have so be sure to catch this one because the next time they're in the area will be at a bigger venue.
It’s been a while since we’ve had any real band announcements for Reading & Leeds but today the organisers have announced a few more interesting names. Friday at Reading and Sunday at Leeds will see bands such as New Found Glory, Fightstar and The Rakes join the main stage whilst joining the NME/Radio 1 Stage [...]
Metric has a brand new video out for their latest single "Sick Muse." Featuring a lot of dancing, sparklers and spotlighting, it's Haines her way. (Get it?, hah). The album Fantasies has earned the band their first gold certified album; congrats to them for that.
I have never really been a fan of the music that Metric have released in the past – Monster Hospital was all a bit weird to me – but I believe that this time the Canadian band have significantly upped the ante.Their latest offering, Fantasies, is an impressive collection of catchy pop songs tinged with a hint of psychedelia and elements of rock. 'Girls With Guns' is immediately striking; the
Toronto-based indie rockers Metric have, in the past, had a problem with consistency. For example, ‘Live It Out’, which was released in 2005, spawned some excellent singles like ‘Monster Hospital’ and ‘Poster Of A Girl’ but was marred by some pretty weak tracks that made it a difficult album to revisit. Despite all this, the [...]
Metric left us fighting the war, the war that wouldn’t stop for the love of God.It has been 4 years since their 2005 release Live It Out which left the world reeling. The past few months have been good to us with the full album of Metric’s new album Fantasies in our hands with the beautiful [...]
Sounds Like: The makings for an electro-pop sing-a-longRIYL: Tegan and Sara, Stars, Feist, Tilly and the WallA Few Words: First albums, I'm told, are easy. Sure, you'll be compared to your peers, but that's natural. Subsequent releases, however, are trickier because you're being judged against yourself. When an artist releases a new album, fans have certain expectations. The problem seems to be...
Let me preface this review by saying that I’ve been obsessed with Metric/Emily Haines since high school. I once saw them three times in the span of 8 months. All my flickr photos of her have some sort of love-professing comment. I don’t care about the almost unanimous internet agreement on Emily being an uber-bitch. [...]No related posts. Sorry.
This is my super most favorite image to use when I get behind on posts. Pretty much speaks for itself, no? As much as it pains me to not devote full posts to those who willingly submit their music for review, in order to bring you the best and brightest in a [somewhat] timely fashion, please enjoy this lengthy post of many many quality tracks, with a bit of my ramblings in betwixt. The ima...
It's been a hot second since Metric's last album Monster Hospital (which was a pretty solid album). They've just announced a new tour (check the dates after the jump) called the "Help, I'm Alive Tour" and features Tokyo Police Club, The Dears, and Sebastien Grainger and the Mountains. The first single off their [...]

Metric's newest album 'Fantasies' (SG News HERE) has officially been released and its rather good if we do say ourselves, so we were rather excited when we saw this little video pop up. Help I'm Alive is the first track off of the album as well as the first single and this video for the song has been described as not a video at all but instead; a mini-film.
