The Meat Puppets are an American rock band formed in January 1980, in Paradise Valley, Arizona. Jameson reminded me of the Meat Puppets with his post yesterday, and this song is perfectly summarizing my Monday mood. Climbing out of bed this morning was certainly an uphill battle, and the clutter on the table (or desk in my case) is getting out of hand for sure. I admit Curt Kirkwood's voice can be grating at first, but for me it is a good type of inharmoniousness.

....and exposing the originals. I feel bad for the Kirkwood brothers, because, well, here's the thing. If I* had a dime for every time I had to correct someone in college and inform them that "Plateau" or "Oh Me" or "Lake Of Fire" wasn't a Nirvana song, but a Meat Puppets song, I'd be less broke, let's say. Now, to be Curt and Chris Kirkwood, and have 30 year old fratboys yelling out "Nirvana!" in the middle of their SXSW reunion shows....that must feel *great. ... MORE

One spring morning in 1973, when I was nine years old, I woke up and my mom was gone. This was one of those, she went out for a loaf of bread and never came back deals, but I didn’t know that then. Finally...the Kirkwood brothers have gotten together to record some new music. 'Rise To Your Knees' reminds me of their glory days, circa 'Meat Puppets II' Its a really, REALLY good album...well worth picking up. Here is one of my favorite tracks off of the brand new one... MORE

Back in the mid-'80s, in pursuit of a story for Rolling Stone, I road in the van with Black Flag to Las Vegas, where they were playing a gig in a building that we were told was normally used to shoot porn films. Last month, I gave a friend of mine an extra ticket to come with me to see The Stooges. This month it came back around to me in the form of a free Meat Puppets ticket. I love how things like this work in our lives. I got right up front against the stage. Was crushed and hit in the head and stepped on such as all the things we endure to be up front. Brothers Curt and Cris Kirkwood have completed work on their first Meat Puppets album together since 1995's "No Joke!," Billboard.com has learned. One cool evening in April of 1994, I got home from work. I was tired, worked all day, I really needed to veg out and think of nothing. Work sucks, for sure. And life certainly has no stress at all, yeah. No time lately to listen to music, and that sucks most of all. I get cranky when I can't have music, forget how to balance. I need the music. Ihear it when I sleep. There's a song runnign through my head seconds after I wake up in the morning. Sometimes that sucks.
