Though it goes uncredited in the album notes, this short dubbed up drum loop at the start fo 5 Man Army is brilliant when Massive Attack uses it and brilliant in it's original form. It is one of the reasons I was drawn to Blue Lines when it came out.For me this is a perfect example of why chasing samples is so rewarding. I never thought anyone could do the drum sample from Eric B & Rakim's "Mahogany" any better than them but the boy's from Bristol freak it something fierce.

im sure a lot of you guys have heard of massive attack. im also sure a lot of you have heard of their more famous albums, "mezzanine" and "100th window". but im not sure if a lot of you have heard their debut album "blue lines". if not, then go check it out. ill do a review later when i have some more time, but for now here are some of the songs i recommend off of "blue lines": "five man army" ft. tricky - very nice laid back, chilled out song with a dub/reggae feel. all...
