Trinkets

Artist:
Other Tags: Brushfire Records, g love, Jack Johnson
Blog post image preview A friend of mine wrote me a letter about cleaning out her Grandma's dresser and finding old trinkets that she remembered from her childhood. She was recalling how when she was little, the trinkets and drawer that held them were sacred and magical but when she went to clean out the drawer she was suprised to find that they were only cheap trinkets.

It occurred to me that there is something larger and profound about the idea of those sacred things turning out to be trinkets. ... MORE

My favorite song...this week

(114)
This is from one of our albums this week in The Program. Enjoy!

"I Love You and Buddha Too"
By Mason Jennings Oh Jesus I love you,
And I love Buddha too,
Ramakrishna, Gurudev,
Daodejing and Muhammad. Why do some people say
That there is just one way
To love you God and come to you?
We are all apart of you. You are unnameable.
You are unknowable.
All we have is metaphor.
That's what time and space are for. Is the universe your thought?
You are, and you are n... MORE

Mason Jennings - Finally

Blog post image preview I seem to be one who is constantly behind the times on new music. I find music years after others have already finished listening. I guess I'm past the point of my life where I want to define myself by the music I listen to, so I guess being "late" is ok. Mason Jennings is someone I found recently, who got his start in Minneapolis (my home town). I had a good friend who would always go to the 400 Bar to see him, and I just didn't see what he saw in his music. I never ... MORE

Blog post image preview Mason Jennings. (Wikipedia definition, in brief) Born in Hawaii, moved with his family to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Learned to play guitar and write his own songs at age 13, later dropped out of school and moved to Minneapolis to pursue his career. Produced self-titled debut in 1997 on an analog four-track in the living room of his rented home (manning all instruments and vocals himself, of course). Jennings provides two songs for the 2007 Bob Dylan biopic, "I'm Not There:... MORE

Free music video of Butterfly (10)
This morning I woke up to read a post by Pekka regarding the experience of a canceled show. You can read it here, http://mog.com/1234chainsaw/blog_post. Anyone who is into concerts most likely has had this happen to them a few times in their life. Nothing is worse than the anticipation of seeing a band you love only to reach the front doors and have the ticket taker say, "Sorry show canceled." Sometimes this experience can hurt a little, and leave a bad taste in your mouth... MORE

About a week ago, I got the opportunity to see Mason Jennings at the Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA. I'd been trying to catch one of his shows for the past three years. While Mason has been playing all but nonstop for close to ten years, East Coast shows have been few and far between. Last year, Jennings signed to a major label and the fans howled in disgust, as they tend to do. But those who were paying attention noticed that the major label was actually a little impri... MORE

While I realize that there's already been a post about Mason Jennings, I'm never one to shy away from sharing my feelings on something. Especially when I think I'm bringing something a little different than that other guy. With a unique voice that swoops up and down no particular melodic scale, Mason Jenning's whittled down version of music including usually voice and guitar. I've always said that much like the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, nearly the sa... MORE

Blog post image preview I have never been a fan of Jack Johnson, I always found him to be a "Poor man's Mason Jennings" as my boss Wilber put it. I think that anyone who likes Jack Johnson (or even if you don't) might like Mason Jennings.

i've been writing songs with various cool peeps in nashville. never really understood the whole town or country music, for that matter... but the more i drink whiskey and write tunes, and drive around and soak in the history i'm starting to "get it." I even listened to george jones on my entire drive back to atlanta. when i got out of tennessee i started feeling a little melancholy... or was it just that the traffic within an hour of atlanta just sucks so bad?
