Marshall Crenshaw's new album "Jaggedland" is out this month. Marshall brought along a number of talented artists like Jim Keltner and Mike Viola to play on the album. This song, "Live And Learn", was co-written with Matt Bair and Dan Bern.
Somewhat under the radar this week, Marshall Crenshaw released his first complete album of new material since 2003's What's in the Bag? Still listening, but my first impressions are good. Strong songs, great guitars, and kind of a mature power pop vibe. This track is a standout so far. Good to have him back.

The moving vans have finally awoken from hibernation this weekend, and folks are cramming their possessions into vans and humping them across town, only to get the sofa stuck on the third-floor landing. Whenever I see a couple getting ready for a move, I think of this song, luxuriating in its jangly layerosity and deceptive simplicity.
everything you need to know aboutcrafting amazing pop music is on this cd.damn.allmusic review:Co-compiler Gary Stewart and project assistant David Gorman waste no time at all before addressing the question that has plagued rock critics and fans since 1981: "how can we rationalize the continued underappreciation of Marshall Crenshaw?" This is a tale with a happy ending. When Marshall Crenshaw released his third LP ??Downtown?? in 1985, it was a huge disappointment to me, one of his most loyal fans. I tried to like it, I really did. It was even produced by T-Bone Burnett. No go. It remains IMHO his worst release ever. One of the songs on it was the tepid ??Blues Is King?? (which you can find in comments). There are a couple o...
Ok, I was gone a week. But it wasn't a week without MOG. Every day seemed to bring a new exchange of e-mails, as the techies at MOG worked on the problem of the impossible upload. They tried things, I tried things, they moaned, I cried, I bitched - and THEY MADE IT WORK! So, if you were unable to upload tracks or pictures, try again. The problem was apparently the fact that MOG was not working c...
I bought this Marshall Crenshaw boot off of Ebay. It annoyed me because several of the tracks, including this one, were present on the CD at too slow a speed. I fixed this with a sound editing program, though. My theme here: Christmas music sucks unless it is also GOOD music, worth listening to all year long. And this one always makes me smile. Loving Marshall Crenshaw helps, too.
In honor of the work week (blearrrrgh) getting started, here's a song from Marshall Crenshaw's GREAT CD "Field Day". The first time I saw Marshall Live, in L.A., he opened with this song. What a thrill!
