I had the chance to check out a great live show last night featuring lady band Raining Jane, blues/funk/soul master Marc Broussard, and their host for the evening Sara Bareilles at the Wiltern in LA. Raining Jane opened with what can be considered an acoustic set. No drum set, but a cajon. Becky Gebhardt would display her sitar abilities in the middle/end of the their set. Yes, I said sitar...
AMG - It might have come out in 2007, but S.O.S.: Save Our Soul is a record very much grounded in the soul music of the 1960s and 1970s, both in material and sound. To begin with, all but one of the songs is a cover of a '60s or '70s soul tune. The arrangements have a very vintage sound as well, singer Marc Broussard and multi-instrumentalist/background singer Calvin Turner being the only const...

Here are some Qs that I sent Marc Broussard a couple days ago... just some random shiz from Beastie Boys to 17 shots of good old mexican tequila to family guy. How many instruments to do you play?A little piano and a little guitar. Describe your music in 3 words…Pretty damn funky. How do you get ready for a live show?Hang out with the band after soundcheck. Listen to some tunes. Tell some j.

Louisiana soul man Marc Broussard recently pondered such a predicament. "I was thinking lately, my wife and I have been doing so well as a husband and wife, that I was thinking I needed a little bit of heartbreak i
