Album Review: "Rabbit Habbits" by Man Man

Artist:
Album:
Track:
(25)
Blog post image preview rating 7.3summary Gypsy strange-mongers Man Man return with more songs; less mindless shouting. That should be a good thing...right? This two person review is by Ethan E. and Sage Turk EE: Well, i'm honored the great William Shakespeare has asked me to help do a review. ST: What's that supposed to mean? Oh..right...my last review. Shakespeare never wrote southern influenced short stories based on an album's titles and content..ok? EE: Whatever...what's next... MORE

Rabbit Habits is a wonderful step in the evolution of this amazing band. It is, like Six Demon Bag, a step into the past, as is shown by the soulful violin in Jackie. But there is a crisper, cleaner sound about the band. Don't worry, Honus Honus's voice is just as scratchy and tortured as ever, and the percussion is pure vintage pots and pans. They have been able to somehow remain both lo-fi and hi-fi. You don't find as much 'noise' on this album (which is normally pa... MORE

Man Man's Rabbit Habits

Artist:

I like tongue twisters and that title, my friend, is a twister for sure.
Man Man is a freak show, and their new release Rabbit Habits fits the circus hour just fine.
Haven't heard of Man Man yet? Think Scissor Sisters meet The Arcade Fire. Or if you are more into the retro bands, imagine Tom Wait's fronting Devo. Yeah, it makes no sense but it all does in the end. Your ears are happy, aren't they?

They play SXSW tonight and are on a long tour, sure to hit a town near yo... MORE

At long last.

Artist:
Album:
Track:

After seeing a Pitchfork video last year chronicling some of the recording sessions and general mayhem Man Man was up to I've been impatiently awaiting the release of their next album. Their last release, Six Demon Bag, was one of those rare albums that finds its way immediately into a heavy rotation of being played on a daily basis for a long period of time and then remaining a staple in the lengthy playlist that gets shuffled whe... My take on a Man Man show early last month...fun stuff. The full review's up at PopMatters today. Man Man + Who Shot Hollywood5 October 2007: Pearl Street — Northampton, MA Man Man is, if anything, still evolving, and, these days, you better be prepared for a surprise, especially when the time comes to play new songs. by Jennifer Kelly My fascination with Man Man goes pretty well back to the beginning, to an anonymous copy of The Man in a Blue Turban with a Face t... Blog post image preview Finally. It's taken me a couple years to get up the nerve and contact someone about doing some writing. I contacted New Reform Magazine a few weeks ago and they responded, asking me to write a short intro. to a Man Man interview. I did it. They liked it. The intro. and the interview will be published in the December 1st edition of NRM. It's on the west coast only but if you aren't there, you can check out their site at www.newreformmagazine.com James

Blog post image preview Just yesterday I reported that Man Man would tour with Modest Mouse this Fall, but what my sources failed to mention is that the band will also be making an important TV appearance as well. Man Man will appear in an upcoming episode of Weeds, performing the show's theme song, "Little Boxes." The song is annoyingly catchy, but is made more popular by the fact that the show features different versions of the song by different bands. It was originally penned and recorded b... MORE

Man Man to play Free Philly Show!!!

(43)
Blog post image preview Unlike those lucky bastards in New York who are privileged enough to host a plethora of free shows each year (Spoon, Decemberists, Man Man, need I go on), us Philadelphians must pay for every show. But fear not Philly our hometown heroes Man Man will be playing a free show on August 22 at Rittenhouse Square. As anyone who attended their recent show at the Starlight Ballroom on July 10th (w/ O' Death and Deerhunter-which was one of the best shows of the summer) can... MORE

Blog post image preview Enough of this blah, blah, blah. Chatter, chatter, chatter. Noise, Noise, Noise. I'm tired and all I want to do is look at Men with Moustaches. Of course Freddy. Eugene from Gogol Bordello and Ron Mael from Sparks. I may be in the mood for beards or chest hair next. We'll see.

Blog post image preview From pitchfork, because there is no way I'd be able to describe this awesomeness in my own words. Best to leave it to the professionals for now. http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/feature/37484-live-man-man-the-lovely-feathers When we (critics and fans) say (over and over) that Man Man sounds like Waits, Zappa, and Beefheart, we mean a number of things: They’re gruff and enigmatic; they superimpose glum beauty over blacksmith-shop clangor; they’re crazy, but they l...
