Shocking news to report this week. Magnolia Electric Company's bassist Evan Farrell has succumbed to injuries sustained from a house fire in Oakland, CA. He was 33. Went to go check out Magnolia Electric Co. the other night in Denver. This was my 3rd M.E.Co. show, and it certainly won't be the last. Jason Molina has been one of my favorite songwriters for the past 5 years or so. The band puts on a pretty good show as well.

How appropriate...quoting one of Los Angeles native sons in the title of this post, Ice Cube. After wading through what felt like thousands of scammers, grifters, and slum lords I have found a place to live. It is way out there...suburban LA. Magnolia Electric Co. today announced details for their current US/European tour and their upcoming release of a four CD/one DVD box set of all new material titled The Sojourner Boxset (Secretly Canadian) according to a spokesperson for the band. Often people who are not musically inclined but really love music can at the very least write about music well, I can do neither. But I'm an avidappreciator and you should still love me. I just purchased the new Magnolia Electric Co. album "Fading Trails" and am enjoying it quite a bit. I love everything Jason Molina touches, but am especially a fan of Songs: Ohia. There is a bunch of great new material coming out in the MEC box set 'Sojourner' in early August.

Magnolia Electric Co. has a new limited edition box set coming out in a couple of weeks. The set includes 4 new CD's of music, as well as a DVD concert/documentary. I've heard 3 of the CD's and a couple of songs from the DVD (which are included below). All 3 are top notch. Jason Molina, is certainly one of the best and most prolific songwriters out there today.
