This another entry for the “We Own The Sky” video contest that happened last month. Luke Ewing & Samm Hodges of Mothlight Creative did an outstanding & professional job. The storyline is about Zeus’ wandering wife Hephaestus (Aphrodite) & his siblings (Persephone & Apollo) set out to dethrone their tyrant father.Take out: rad remix by The Vanishing System.“We Own the Sky (The Vanishing System R...

M83 come onto stage with Anthony Gonzales, Morgan Kibby and a drummer surrounded by what I can only describe as a Gladiators Danger Zone box that protected its contestants from tennis balls. Aesthetics aside though, M83 have a powerful combination now that includes the mercurial Kibby who sings passionately and intensely throughout.

When I look at my notes from this past weekend's M83 show words like sparkly and ethereal are the first ones that I notice. Note to self: Those are lame, overused words to describe music. A one-off gig at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles' newest architectural landmark, brought M83 aka Anthony Gonzalez, his laptop and synthesizer together with the Los Angeles Philharmonic' like indie ro...

Despite a runtime of almost 36-minutes, Digital Shades is anything but brisk. Gonzalez perfectly juxtaposes each track so that the album blends just the right way. Often times, you'd swear you were listening to a single 36-minute song. That's both positive and negative. As a whole, the album shouldn't have so many different parts that it would feel choppy and uneven. On the other hand, some trac...

The Antibes-native duo M83 debuted their self-titled LP later that year, which finally saw its United States official release in 2005. M83 is surprisingly polished for a first-time record as compared with other electronic groups. I'm not talking production but more musical focus, at least in M83 terms. The band does branch out a little in experimenting, as with their brief dabs in noise pop (an ...

On Saturdays=Youth, Anthony Gonzalez of M83 churns out the kind of epic, spacey, electronic anthems that Pink Floyd would've, had they only a better Roland synthesizer and maybe a little less LSD.The voices on "We Own The Sky" are mixed low and whispery, and often lost in the layers of arena-sized synths and celestial guitar tones. There's something about burnt stars crying and secrets from the...

Although the touring combination of M83 and The Killers may seem a bit odd to fans of Anthony Gonzalez's atmospheric soundscapes (maybe not so much to fans of The Killers' '80s rip-offs), the two bands actually have more in common than you think. For example: Both bands have charted on Billboard, with M83's latest album, Saturdays =Youth (TMT Review), debuting at #1 on the Top New Artist Heats...

Ok, maybe that's a bit of a reach, but the mood of this song, off City Of Satellites' debut EP The Spook, reminds me of that moody 80's vibe that M83 had going on in Saturday's=Youth. For a first EP it's not bad for the aussie band at all. Below I've posted "Sleeping Disgrace" which kind [...]
