i know i'm coming in late in the game on this one, cause i somehow never heard Paper Planes by M.I.A. I've been listening to the M.I.A. song, 'paper planes', on repeat for a few days and despite generally liking M.I.A., I just think this song is hella catchy. I was totally blasting it while driving to work, which makes me super white. Maybe they should put me on Stuff White People Like. I also love the irony of a super poppy song that's all about being a hustler.... MORE

Yesterday we posted M.I.A.'s new official video for "Paper Planes." The song, off the Sri-Lankan born rapper's latest album Kala, has been met with controversy due to its gunshot refrain and use of terms like "murder" and "bongs."
The video also premiered on MTV 's TRL yesterday, however not in its uncensored original format. The gunshot refrain was replaced with the sound of banging metal and the gun cocking that followed the gun shots was edited with an extra cash r... MORE

M.I.A. announced that she will be signing copies of her new album Kala in NYC later this month. If you want to get yours signed, be sure to be at Borders Books and Music at 10 Columbus Circle at 3pm on Friday October 19th. Or, if you are in the Philly area, she will be coming to you for a concert that was also just added. Concert Review of Saturday at the Treasure Island Music Festival.
Whew! What a long day!
The overall event was an amalgamation of big music festival and travelling carnival. 2 stages, 1 ferris wheel, a lineup of food venders in white tents, a yard full of various other tents housing an arcade, free stuff, games, merchants of jewels, clothes, and more stuff. I just have to say that I am super excited for M.I.A.'s latest album, which comes out tomorrow (technically in half an hour!!!) and I can't wait to listen to the whole thing. I think out of all the songs I've previewed illegally so far, "Paper Planes" is the one that has me most entranced. "Come Around" has the most danceable beat though. We'll just have to see what else grows on me as I replay the entire album repeatedly until I get sick...

halfway thru summer, i find the first summer album of the year!! i'm not really a hip hop fan, and i found M.I.A.'s previous albums pleasant, but this new record has got me bopping around like an idiot at work, and generally happy... a perfect mix of catchy rapping, whacky sounds, and an overall summery feel... definitely worth a check!! --
