It's clearly the season for a lot of Christmas (and other holiday) songs, so brace yourself. Low's "Santa's Coming Over" gets us started on a creepier note -- the track's title and main sentiment sounds more like a warning than most Santa songs, which is reflected by (and refracted onto) the faces of the various cherubic kids and post-kids in this video. The song appears on a 7" of the same nam...
I am so happy that I am finally gong to get to see Low...a band that I had resigned myself to never seeing since they never, ever came to Columbus. They make such beautiful records...i am really curious to see how it translates live...Here is the alternate version of 'Hatchet' off of their gorgeous album, 'Drums And Guns'
Here are some discs which can be found under the diamond of my gramophone.Of course, the laser-beam has long replaced the needle of my turntable which more likely than not has a scroll wheel.
Here is one of my favorites. Beautiful words....and I love how the song just kind of explodes in the middle....if you don't have Low's 'The Great Destroyer' you are really missing out.
Even a band as composed as Low must have rubbed hands with excitement at the prospect of playing a cathedral in downtown Kilkenny. The furrow they have tilled is entirely their own; telekinetic harmonies, distortion without sounding metallic; dark to light and back again, all within the blood-red lyrical themes that colour their glacial folk-rock. Music, as usual, as been my saving grace. I am having a great time out here trying to find myself, but I still have bouts of lonliness and...dare I say...home sickness. And I am just not the kinda guy to pick up the phone and chat...I am just not a phone person. But what I can do is listen to music....in my music obsessed mind, each and every great memory I have of my friends and family back in...
During my battle with the flu this past week I took some time in between whining and watching bad tv to sift through the only two boxes of stuff that survived my house fire last July. I don't know, its like every time I go through it I will find that one magical photo or letter, something personal and specific and meaningful that I somehow missed the previous hundred times. Nothing magical was ...
Why did I wait so long to move out west again? Low is one of the bands that I was resigned to never seeing in Ohio. This is why I am so happy to finally have Low tickets in my possession...Sept 29 @ The Troubadour in LA. Of course I have no idea where that is, but i have 2 months to figure it out...
Is the mp3 uploader working today? Lets see...i am dying to share the new Low album...or at least a song from it...i am a compulsive music sharer you know...
Maybe you need to give "this":http://whosyrdad.multiply.com/photos/slideshow/3 a spin. Be forewarned: if cute children and general jolliness aren't your thing, steer clear.BTW, the tagged song blew me away last night, when I heard it for the first time.
One of my favorite bands on the planet is FINALLY coming out with their new record next Tuesday. I am talking about Minnesota's Low. This is their follow up to 'The Great Destroyer'...one of the finest cd's in my collectionI have only listened to it twice all the way through, and its quickly becoming my favorite cd of 2007 so far. It is just brilliant...the kind of music that sticks with you af...
Everybody’s favorite slo-core minimalists are back with a beautiful, intense, politically-relevant album called Drums and Guns, out last week on Sub Pop. Here’s a bit from my Dusted review: “Drums and Guns has a sparse, understated beauty to it, electronically-generated rhythms under otherworldly harmonies, and subtle violence buried in the words. It's dark, lovely and slow to blossom, bu
The Minnesota quiet-rock trio Low have a new video, directed by Marc Gartman, out for "Breaker," a song off their latest album, Drums And Guns. One could interpret the video as an anti-war statement. In the video, front man/vocalist/guitarist Alan Sparhawk is seen wearing an army jacket, sitting at a table, stuffing his face with cake. Check it out:http://www.subpop.com/features/breaker/
