Singles like this one are the things that Low fans' dreams are made of. The band's inter-album schwag has always lived up to the expectations their albums create, and this superlative, string-laden little treat can proudly be added to their successful list of singles and compilation appearances. To their glowing catalog of covers, add a dramatic rendition of the Smiths' "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me." It's always fun to hear Low's interpretation of their influences' songs, especially when there's an accompanying sleeve replete with a knockoff of Smiths-style album art to gaze at. "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me" notwithstanding, the really great moment on this single comes with the original song "Because You Stood Still," indisputable evidence that Low were still improving as songwriters and performers. The CD single also contains a Quicktime file of Marc Gartman's video for "Dinosaur Act," the only single from 2001's Things We Lost in the Fire LP.
