Hey everyone! In narrative form, here's my experience seeing Lou mothereffing Reed on this past Sunday. So my friend, Jeff, and I arrived at the concert at 7:30. We were told that Reed's sound check was running late so the opening would be delayed. Typical. So they finally opened the doors when the sound check was done. We got to our seats in front row, second balcony (great view). Shortly after at about 8:10 or so Thurston Moore came out. A man sitting in the secti... MORE

I will be attending this show on April 20th in Northampton. I was wondering if any other MOGs were going? Or if anyone knew the buzz on what he's supposed to perform? All I read in articles and see in interviews is that "He'll be doing a short US east coast tour, then go back to Europe to perform Berlin." So I'm not sure what that means for his US tour. Can anyone help?... MORE

Imagine the wiry filament of energy Perry Farrell meeting the one-and-only Lou Reed for the first time. This 'meeting-of-minds' occurred after Lou's Keynote Speech at the SXSW convention center Thursday, March 13th.

Music Magic.
“I Love punk music” “and I was the first one”
Imagine. Sun is setting slowly over Austin’s Fader Tent. People packed like cattle to watch the Lou Reed Tribute.
My Morning jacket. We all sway and sip. Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth throws himself around on Stage. (see below) He's killing it. Romps in crowd. Throws himself over the stage and then back on. Eyes closed most of the time.
Dr. Dog. All are there. Moby comes on stage. With h... MORE

MOG raged it up yesterday at the after party for the Julian Schnabel–directed film "Berlin,” which revisits Lou Reed's 1973 concept album of the same name. The flick, a concert film taped in 2006 at Brooklyn’s St. Ann's Warehouse, screened at Austin’s Paramount Theater yesterday. Reed, who pioneered punk with the Velvet Underground and continues to stretch music’s boundaries with a successful solo career even came to the party, that hosted sets from Austin psych-rockers the ... I haven't listened to Lou's "New York" album in quite a while. Today I heard "Dirty Boulevard" on the radio and when I got home and saw how much the stock market had tanked it immediately made me think of this song which is my favorite on the album. The old man rocks on this one. Reminds me a bit of Lightnin' Hopkins for some reason.... MORE

After my trip to Myanmar I've become a bigger supporter of the Second Amendment than ever. Government should fear the people, not the other way around. I have no idea how Lou feels about it but I know he's serious about liberty and human rights and is more than aware of the damage done to both by the Bush Regime.... MORE

In the news these last couple of days I read of a little girl who won a contest for choice Hannah Montana tickets. She won with an essay which detailed how her father had been killed in Iraq, among other things, and that life was rough.
It turns out the girl of eight(?) conspired with her mom to fabricate the whole thing.
The Mom, defiant to the end, said "We did what we had to do to win". (or words to that effect).
If that doesn't depress you, give the track a listen.

Here's a new Lou Reed song. Over at Pitchfork and Stereogum they don't much care for this one, but I kinda like it.

Due to circumstances beyond control, my mogging allocation has been reduced to, well, less than I'd like. So, I gotta make the most of it. It's getting colder here, and my dogs react in typical warming themselves fashion. They bark. And bark. And bark.
Gonna introduce my horny little dachsund to that stray cat that's been hangin' round Bow wow fer sure.... MORE

RodneyPWelch of rodneypwelch@bellsouth.netI'm not sure what everyone else was listening to in the summer of 1978, but Lou Reed's Street Hassle spent an awful lot of time on my turntable. It was the first of many albums I would go on to buy by Lou Reed, and this title track was one of the strangest, scariest, moodiest, darkest and most fascinating things I'd ever heard. Still is. This was Reed's comeback album, in a way, one of several, and it was I think kind of a response to the punk explosion which Reed and the Vel... MORE
