MUSIC NEWS - It's been thirty five years since former Velvet Underground leader, Lou Reed 's dark masterpiece Berlin album was released to the music world. At the time, critics didn't understand, but the album's storyline with paranoia, drugs and suicide became a personal soundtrack for many young people going through the difficult times of the period. Of course, it's now considered one ...

New Lou Reed (Feat. Antony Hegarty) - "Caroline Says, Pt. II" (Live At St. Anne's Warehouse)

We've mentioned Julian Schnabel's documentary Lou Reed's Berlin along with Lou Reed's diss of Lester Bangs . The film's out this fall, the diss largely forgotten. Anyhow, Lou Reed's Berlin includes a December 2006 performance of the 1973 album at St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn. Matador's releasing the accompanying soundtrack under the descriptive title Berlin: Live At St. Ann's Warehouse . The...

Lou Reed's Berlin on DVD

Don't want to say too much here, but the Julius Schnabel directed concert video of Lou Reed's 2007 performance of Berlin is out. I am not sure I could have applauded if I were in the audience--but probably would have wept. This is a great art song cycle. Lovely performance by Antony. This is painful, powerful stuff and ample justification for giving Mr. Reed a lot of slack.

The first time I heard Lou Reed it was "Rock and Roll Animal". At the time, I thought he was the best. He was better than Bowie, T.Rex, Iggy....all his contemporaries. The album had the best musicianship of the three by far...at the time. (I can see now Bowie had some great musicians working for him as well) In those days NO ONE liked Lou in my neighborhood. From what I read later, and seeing ...

So the ex-Velvet Underground god; Lou Reed recorded and released this album originally back in 1973 and it flopped. Piss on your Grandmother, Delaware, 1976-83

Andrew Chambless writes: We were on the forefront of punk before there was punk. We rocked living rooms, basements and backyards from Newark to Wilmington, whenever anybody's parents went away. The band formed in 1976, when Rob, Andrew and Andy took a tape recorder in Andy's living room and pretended we were a rock band called Piss On Your Grandmother – the most threatening name we could.

Lou Reed's Northampton Show

Hey everyone! In narrative form, here's my experience seeing Lou mothereffing Reed on this past Sunday. So my friend, Jeff, and I arrived at the concert at 7:30. We were told that Reed's sound check was running late so the opening would be delayed. Typical. So they finally opened the doors when the sound check was done. We got to our seats in front row, second balcony (great view).Shortly after...

My friends and I have begun a psuedo book club. I say “psuedo” because we discuss more than books and in fact have yet to discuss. Rather, our topics have included, justifying the absence of god to methodists, deconstructing environmentalism from a purely biological viewpoint, and discussing Douglas Haddow’s “Hipster: The Dead End of Western [...]

Lou Reed - Coney Island Baby...maybe they're right. Today, my hometown (well close enough) Cincy Bengals matched up against the favored Baltimore Ravens - and pulled out another win!! They are now 5 - 1 and the only tem in the NFL to have beaten all the teams in their division once. That's all good, but there was additional motivation going on today. Some of you may have seen that the Bengals ...
