Blog post image preview Imagine the wiry filament of energy Perry Farrell meeting the one-and-only Lou Reed for the first time. This 'meeting-of-minds' occurred after Lou's Keynote Speech at the SXSW convention center Thursday, March 13th. Perry Farrell Lou and Perry right after the interview. Photo by Faith-Ann Young for MOG. Keep in mind- since Lou can be sensitive to media- this is a rare occurrence to capture him talking so openly on camera.Plus, since Lou had discussed his film "Berlin"... MORE

Lou Reed's Northampton Show

Artist:
Other Tags: Northampton. Lou Reed, Thurston Moore, Steve Hunter
Hey everyone! In narrative form, here's my experience seeing Lou mothereffing Reed on this past Sunday. So my friend, Jeff, and I arrived at the concert at 7:30. We were told that Reed's sound check was running late so the opening would be delayed. Typical. So they finally opened the doors when the sound check was done. We got to our seats in front row, second balcony (great view). Shortly after at about 8:10 or so Thurston Moore came out. A man sitting in the section ... MORE

Lou Reed Gets His Own (Satellite) Radio Show

Blog post image preview I wonder how much SIRIUS satellite is paying Lou Reed for the radio show he will broadcast over the satellite radio network. Beginning this Saturday evening, May 17th, at 6 PM, (mark you calendars) for the premier of Reed's radio show. It will broadcast over channel 70 for "Lou Reed's New York Shuffle." Ummm...they couldn't think of a more clever title? Helping Reed with the music selection will be producer Hal Willner. "For years," Reed said in a statement, "I've ... MORE

Oy vey, what a week!

Artist:
Album: Rock 'N' Roll Animal
Track:

Blog post image preview Am I ever glad this one's over. I spent last Saturday and Sunday in bed with the stomache flu. Ruined my long weekend. Then spent all week dragging my ass at work, even made a couple of mistakes on the job which, while not critical, made me feel like a bonehead. Had to turn down every opportunity for socializing 'cause I couldn't keep much food down (let alone liquor). Needless to say, I need some rock'n'roll to kickstart this tired, listless ass.

Blog post image preview MOG raged it up yesterday at the after party for the Julian Schnabel–directed film "Berlin,” which revisits Lou Reed's 1973 concept album of the same name. The flick, a concert film taped in 2006 at Brooklyn’s St. Ann's Warehouse, screened at Austin’s Paramount Theater yesterday. Reed, who pioneered punk with the Velvet Underground and continues to stretch music’s boundaries with a successful solo career even came to the party, that hosted sets from Austin psych-rockers th... Lou Reed Covers Victoria Williams "Tarbelly and Featherfoot"

Artist:
Album: Sweet Relief: A Benefit For Victoria
Track:

Free music video of Tarbelly and Featherfoot (12)

Perhaps Lou is able to make this cover his own, because it has the sort of narative you would almost expect from a Lou Reed song.  This is from the benefit album called Sweet Relief that came out in the 90's.  Here's a little bonus for all of you old 120 Minutes fans, Lou and Ms. Williams (sorta) playing the song live:   I think Victoria Williams is an incredible songwriter, and I was very excited to see her at a music festival that was held by Paste magazine in... TEACH YOUR CHILDREN(well Duh!)

In the news these last couple of days I read of a little girl who won a contest for choice Hannah Montana tickets. She won with an essay which detailed how her father had been killed in Iraq, among other things, and that life was rough. It turns out the girl of eight(?) conspired with her mom to fabricate the whole thing. The Mom, defiant to the end, said "We did what we had to do to win". (or words to that effect). If that doesn't depress you, give the track a listen."Caro... MORE

Lou Reed's Concert Kick Off in Northampton

Artist:
Other Tags: lou reed, US Tour, Northampton, Calvin Theater
I will be attending this show on April 20th in Northampton. I was wondering if any other MOGs were going? Or if anyone knew the buzz on what he's supposed to perform? All I read in articles and see in interviews is that "He'll be doing a short US east coast tour, then go back to Europe to perform Berlin." So I'm not sure what that means for his US tour. Can anyone help?
