Perhaps last year you remember Dale (www.mog.com/dale) gathering all the half year lists. Not only was this fun, it was also informative, because this way you could discover all kinds of albums you perhaps hadn't listened to yet but apparently other moggers are very high on! I can honestly say it was the way I discovered and started to love without barriers The National. Dale, having a busier life than yours truly, will pass on doing it this year. I contacted him if I per... MORE
In the olympic spirit of obscure and ridiculous sports - badmitton or synchronized diving anyone?? - I wanted to give away some medals too...I have Olympic fever and the only cure is to BLOG it out. Best Song Title Of The Year So Far: Bronze - The Hold Steady - 'Slapped Actress'(in my Olympics, the Hold Steady = Michael Phelps) Silver - Robert Pollard - 'Confessions Of A Teenage Jerkoff'(I think this song would have won, but the Russian judge gave it... Mogstars: 8/10 Twelve seconds into the album and I’ve already been pinned to the wall. Within two minutes I am already exhausted, it seems more like taking a jog than listening to music. Thankfully at two minutes forty the eclectic burst of opening energy finally affords the listener some breathing space. Three minutes per song and just as many chords per-track, this is a vigorous workout of indie-punk. Los Campesinos! are hardly MOR are material, more like toddlers w... MORE
It is ridiculously hot outside. Like "Oh God! My skin is on fire!" hot. So I'm going to throw a song up here that makes me happy and avoid thinking about the fact that the sun seesm to be roughly one mile above me, which makes me sad. Have some Los Campesinos!, then. You also need to go to a decent record store and get their "International Tweexcore Underground" thing, if only to hear them do a version of a really angry Black Flag song and a cover of an excellent son... If you have listened to Los Campesinos, you'll know it is incredibly impossible to not at least tap your foot or bob your head to their music. This fact manifested itself entirely at the band's show at Bimbo's last night. The entire audience, whether there just for a night out or to see a band they absolutely adored, was a perpetual body of people bouncing to the beat. Even people sitting at the tables, enjoying a nice dinner or after dinner aperitif, couldn't help but mov... MORE
