Loretta's my favourite female country singer, I have alot of respect for the ol' gal. She's stayed true to country music through everything she has endured, not strayed away from what country sounds like, like so many others have over time. Here's a great little article I just stumbled over.   Loretta Lynn Steals the Show at Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction
Lee Ann Womack, Blake Shelton and Anne Murray Perform During Ceremony in New York's Times Square.

I admit to being a little bit confused by the title of this song: is Mrs. Leroy Brown related to Bad, Bad Leroy Brown of Jim Croce fame, perchance? If not, they should totally date.  But anyway, in case you didn't know that Loretta Lynn is a legend for legitimate reason, you can start right here and enjoy her hot pipes and crackin' band.  This is a song to crank on a summer ride to the beach with the top down.   (And I'm not even a country music fan.)

Better to have loved and lost,...

Track: Portland Oregon - (with Jack White)
(53)
Blog post image preview It was a glorious year watching Greg Oden play basketball. I am so happy for him. Because as good of a basketball player as he is, he is even a better guy. It is an honor to be in the same alumni association with this guy. Portland, you really did win the Lottery. Appreciate him...i did...and another toast to people making their dreams come true! And of course a song...oh, and on a personal note, the first time I EVER got drunk was on sloe gin...the smell of the st... MORE

What Comes of Taking Good Care of Your Voice

(28)
So I was thinking about rock and roll singers not taking care of their voices, and this led me to remember Van Lear Rose by Loretta Lynn, which she recorded when she was SEVENTY. Her voice still sounds amazing. So it can be done. This particular track once knocked me off a piece of exercise equipment. Back in late 2003, I loaded it onto my MP3 player without having listened to it, and there I was in the gym when this amazing song came on. I totally wasn't ready for i... MORE

Fist City

Free music video of Fist City (6)
You won't catch me listening to country all that often, but that don't mean It's not fun. Loretta Lynn has seen a bit of a revival lately thanks to Jack White and Van Lear Rose which is a pretty good album. This one's a classic that always makes me laugh. I mean, she looks ready to beat some ass don't she?

Oh man. Loretta Lynn is coming to town. And I find this out only days after finding out that in April, I get to see the Charlie Daniels Band and the Marshall Tucker Band on the same night and in June I get to see Hank Williams, Jr., and Lynyrd Skynyrd on the same night. This is like classic country music heaven.

Blog post image preview If you haven't downloaded the whole "Van Lear Rose" album by Loretta Lynn, or if you actually have money to buy it (why buy the cow when you get the milk for free though) go and do so now, it rocks Here is a right on review from ampcamp.com "Set all hick stigmas aside and saddle on up to a little bit of Loretta Lynn’s sweet country crooning. From the first chords of the title track, the album resonates with beauty and vibrancy. You’re still reeling from the swelling voc... MORE
