Not to be confused with Little Richard's 1972 Warner Reprise comeback album of the same title, The Second Coming is a double-disc compilation released by Charly records in 2006, consisting of selected Vee Jay recordings from the '60s. While remakes of the original '50s Specialty hits have all the charm and resuscitating powers of reheated espresso, the funky soul grooves are decidedly catchy and would come in handy while carousing, imbibing, or causing trouble with harm to none. A serviceable introduction to Little Richard, this will work best as a sequel to his earlier triumphantly rowdy works and as a prelude to his latter-day accomplishments.
