AMG Review of Insidia
Bradley Torreano
All Music GuideIn the field of Italian music, ock music has always been approached very differently. And, not surprisingly, Insidia is a very bizarre album when compared with most English-language ock albums. Mixing in Latin percussion, exotic melodies, and feedback-enhanced guitar, this album almost sounds like a cross between mid-'80s alternative rock and Los Lobos. Songs like the title track and "Mr. Hyde" have a driving sound that brings to mind groups like Gene Loves Jezebel, but Litfiba adds a distinct flavor that keeps the music from getting too pompous. The psychedelic keyboard work is one of the major contributors to the grounding of the music, as are the vocals from singer Cabo, which are much darker and more passionate than one would expect from the comparisons above. Anyone curious to hear an Italian take on alternative rock should give this a listen; there is a distinct sound here that may not be groundbreaking, but it doesn't fail to entertain.
