I think it’s safe to say that this single is going to be huge, as it was playing in my local Topshop last week when I was trying to buy a coat.
Much like labelmate Jeremy Warmsley, Finn’s music is sweet and catchy, telling a story of love and loss. And as a one-man band; ‘Better To Be’ showcases sheer talent.

Some songs seem perfectly suited to those lazy days where summer's last flurry slides into autumn. Some songs simply have a quality that makes you want to sit back and appreciate them, and everything that surrounds you. Liam Finn's Second Chance is one of those songs... I stumbled on it today, and its indescribable effervescence has me totally intoxicated:
A young Liam Finn learnt to play many intstruments, well as the son of Neil Finn (Front man of Crowded House, one of my favourite bands, and yes even though they are originally from NZ we claim them as Aussies... lol) I guess there were plenty lying around for the taking... Liam received alot of praise for his debut album I'll be Lightening last year, this is his second single Better to Be from the album to coincide with his UK tour. Apparently he shoots his own publicit... MORE
When life hands you lemons, play this song every day on your way to work. Seriously, it's got amazing restorative powers.
http://terriblelovesongs.blogspot.com I have just returned from a lovely time celebrating a wedding in France with my French family. In my absence, London has experienced an unusual bout of warm weather and unfortunately, my poor old courgette plant took the brunt of it. Guess they're off the menu this week...
My sickly looking courgette plant -please note the little bird who flew in momentarily for this photo opportunity
All of this reminded me of the Baz Luhrmann son... MORE

you find yourself listening to records by the OFFSPRING of some of the bands you grew up listening to. Like Liam Finn...who obviously sounds a LOT like his dad, Neil...but at 23 he definitely has already carved out his own sound. Now Crowded House were a little before my formative years, but I just saw them for the first time ever at Coachella this past April...so this hit me hard :-) This is a live recording, quality isn't the best...but it gives you an idea of the go... It is a joke amongst my friends, this affinity-bordering-on-pathetic-obsession I have for/with Neil and Tim Finn. While my appreciation for wee Liam Finn (Neil's boy) is unlikely to reach the same mythic proportions, I am finding it impossible to get this song out of my head. It's strange and familiar and dorky and sophisiticated all at once. I love it. I'm really looking forward to the availability of Liam's solo album here in the States.
