This is how Les Savy Fav chose to greet us downstairs at the Middle East last Saturday night. Singer Tim Harrington stared quietly at us through his DIY mask and began an almost imperceptible whistle into the microphone. Then he would turn it on the crowd for us to howl a responding whistle. Soon as the howling had reached sufficient crescendo, Seth Jabour jangled out some opening guitar notes to powerup the rest of the band into What Would Wolves Do? from th... MORE

I've no idea how to pronounce that, but it's apparently Finnish for "Happy Birthday". This dedication goes out to Pekka, our resident philosophy professor and expert in all things "sonic yum-yum". People may call me EMCD, but this guy's been stuffing my hard drive full of goodness since the word "go" around here. Recently, his posted list of Top 30 albums of 2007 led me to finally check out Les Savy Fav, and what joy that was! Here, have a taste of "Patty Lee" from t... MORE
From LSF's latest album, Let's Stay Friends. As mentioned in my previous post, I didn't really get into this album as a whole, but it does have some good tracks. I wouldn't say it was their worst release, but I wouldn't recommend it as introduction to their music either.
Personal favorites in no particular order: Brace Yourself, What Would Wolves Do?, Raging In the Plague Age and Scotchguard the Credit Card, Patty Lee
Les Savy Fav released their long-awaited full-length album Let's Stay Friends last year, but the singles are still trickling out. "Patty Lee" will be released on February 25th on Syd's own French Kiss Records, of course. Then, the band will gather all their 7-inch singles from the last 10 years into one re-release of their 2004 album titled Inches. AND, there's still just enough time to get your votes in for the Plug Award for Best Indie Rock Album of the Year. Vote f... MORE
While I was slightly fearing this show because1) both friends I was supposed to go with bailed on meand2) my brother had told me horror stories about Les Savy Sav shows I remained optimistic and excited to get inside the GAMH and get into it. I was going mostly for, I confess, The Dodos. They are a recent band who have captured my heart and I love them dearly. I was so excited to be going to see them. Les Savy Fav is a band that I have listened to on occasion, but who ... MORE

I was surfing 7Digital today when I noticed they're giving away a few Les Savy Fav tunes. You can download "The Equestrian" and "What Would Wolves Do" off their album Let's Stay Friends for FREE! 7Digital is great too, their interface is nice and the files are DRM-free.

Oh, and it's a UK store, with prices in pounds. But I've had no trouble using them and I'm in the US.

Six out of ten stars The new Les Savy Fav album is really good. You should totally check it out. Oh. You’re still here. One of those, eh? Details, details – don’t want to just trust me, do you? You want a full-fledged review, do you? All right, fine then. What sort you looking for? A captivating anecdotal opening? A chronological back-story? A technical review of the musicianship? A cookie cutter review full of useless name-dropping and reference making? A clever att... MORE
LIve at the Festsaal Kreuzberg in Berlin Les Savy Fav show the whole world how a rocksow schould be: no prisoners. (This has four parts, all fantastic.)
