Leonard Norman Cohen, CC (born September 21, 1934 in Montreal, Quebec) is a Canadian poet, novelist, and singer-songwriter. Cohen published his first book of poetry in Montreal in 1956 and his first novel in 1963. Cohen's early songs are based in folk music melodies and instrumentation. In the 1970s, he was more influenced by popular music and cabaret music. One of the my favorite songwriters is being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame tonight. As a tribute to Leonard Cohen, Damien Rice will be performing Hallelujah for the occasion (I learned that the show was airing tonight from a Damien Rice email update). "If I were to float off in a balloon and were only allowed to bring the music of one artist, I would chose Leonard Cohen. Very few things in life are this clear to me." (Rice took the words outta my mouth.)

i don't have a lot of time for music anymore. its sort of bullshit, that statement, because my apartment is nothing short of a shrine to hipster culture, framed records, band poster screen prints, rock mags. i fall asleep in a room with a framed lou reed (transformer tour) t-shirt on the wall and a cross section of everything that's right with music staring me in the face. but i don't have a whole lot of time for it anymore. bullshit. i know. i was laying in the bat...
