I've never listened to Leonard Cohen until now. Checked out some odds n; ends from the local library, and one of the disc I picked up was the soundtrack to the film "I'm Your Man". Damn if these heartwrenchinly fine covers don't fit the mood to a tee. The disc kicks off and ends with "Tower of Song", the opener arranged by the fistula introduced Martha Wainwright. Thank you, Leonard, for giving voice to these thoughts. Well my friends are gone and my hair is grey

She does this on the road quite a bit. Quite the homage to Leonard Cohen. This is from a live radio set

This is an amazing song, and this recording by Leonard Cohen, which is included on the excellent "The Essential Cohen" two-cd set, is incredible. So sad, so beautiful. I've listened to this song at least 100 times.

One of the best true artists out there. What else could be said about this man that hasn't already been said. Well, if Lou Reed puts you in the "highest and most influential echelon of songwriters," you probaby are. This is just one of his songs from The Future album.... MORE

So last Fall I wrote a letter to Mr Cohen. I don't do such things. I carried it around for a few months, then recently discarded it. So he announces a world tour, the first in 15 years, and where does it begin? In the Maritimes! More specifically, it starts in a small venue in MY hometown, the day after my birthday, which also happens to be Mothers Day. I got my ticket yesterday, I'm in "the Golden Circle" 5 rows back. So thank you Brother Cohen, my Rabbi and ... MORE

There has been much debate about the state of Rock and Roll since last September when the list of 2008 Hall of Fame inductees was announced. The list included several artists which music critics harshly deemed unworthy of the once prestigious lifetime achievement award. The nominees included Beastie Boys, Madonna, Afrika Bambaataa, John Mellencamp, Donna Summer, Leonard Cohen, The Dave Clark Five, Chic, and The Ventures, some of which are obvious choices (Cohen) while other... Canadian singer-songwriter, poet and novelist Leonard Cohen has scheduled nearly 40 European performances this Summer. The tour, the first for the 73-year-old in nearly 15 years, will not include any dates in the United States.
As previously reported, Cohen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (March 10) for his status among the "highest and most influential echelon of songwriters."
Currently Cohen is working on his 12th studio album, which is exp... MORE

One of the my favorite songwriters is being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame tonight. As a tribute to Leonard Cohen, Damien Rice will be performing Hallelujah for the occasion (I learned that the show was airing tonight from a Damien Rice email update). "If I were to float off in a balloon and were only allowed to bring the music of one artist, I would chose Leonard Cohen. Very few things in life are this clear to me." (Rice took the words outta my mouth.)

Sick of hearing someone other than Leonard Cohen sing "Hallelujah"? Yeah, me too. But turns out that chances are high for seeing Cohen perform his famous ditty in person.
According to a post on the Leonard Cohen forum, run via the Mojo blog, Cohen will be returning to the stage this summer - the first time in 15 years.
The post read this to be exact:"Leonard Cohen will be touring with his band in Canada and [the] U.S. in May and in Europe in the summer. More detail... MORE

One of the great ballads of connection found, lost, and recalled - Leonard Cohen's "Famous Blue Raincoat", from his Lp Songs Of Love And Hate - was recently posted by Aboriginalien. I have duly bookmarked the entry, which includes every finely wrought, strange, funny, sad word of the lyric. This post, featuring another fine song from the same album, is dedicated to those unlucky few who mistakenly regard Cohen as that guy who sings the depressing and h... MORE

"Its four in the morning, the end of december
Im writing you now just to see if youre better
New york is cold, but I like where Im living
Theres music on clinton street all through the evening. I hear that youre building your little house deep in the desert
Youre living for nothing now, I hope youre keeping some kind of record. Yes, and jane came by with a lock of your hair
She said that you gave it to her
That night that you planned to go clear
Did you ever ... MORE

Lester Jonze has made a post, entitled Before They Were Old, talking about the Who and Who's Next. It reminded me that, if i live another two months, i'll be 59 on 22 October. Not real sure i want to live another two months. Not that it's any way likely i'm going to pull an Amy Winehouse - i have no desire to die, but i find that it's just harder and harder to get up and do anything every day. It's probably at least partly because i've managed to forget mo... MORE
