Led Zeppelin

BBC Sessions

Led Zeppelin's BBC sessions were among the most popular bootleg items of the ock & roll era, appearing on a myriad of illegal records and CDs. They were all the more popular because of the lack of official Led Zeppelin live albums, especially since The Song Remains the Same failed to capture the essence of the band. For anyone who hadn't heard the recordings, the mystique of Zeppelin's BBC sessions was somewhat mystifying, but the official 1997 release of the double-disc BBC Sessions offered revelations for any fan who hadn't yet heard this music. While some collectors will be dismayed by the slight trimming on the "Whole Lotta Love Medley," almost all of the group's sessions are included here, and they prove why live Zeppelin was the stuff of legend. The 1969 sessions, recorded shortly after the release of the first album, are fiery and dynamic, outstripping the studio record for sheer power. Early versions of "You Shook Me," "Communication Breakdown," "What Is and What Should Never Be," and "Whole Lotta Love" hit harder than their recorded counterparts, while covers of Sleepy John Estes' "The Girl I Love She Got Long Black Wavy Hair," Robert Johnson's "Travelling Riverside Blues," and Eddie Cochran's "Something Else" are welcome additions to the Zeppelin catalog, confirming their folk, lues, and ockabilly roots as well as their sense of vision. Zeppelin's grand vision comes into sharper relief on the second disc, which is comprised of their 1971 sessions. They still have their primal energy, but they're more adventurous, branching out into folk, twisted psychedelia, and weird lues-funk. Certainly, BBC Sessions is the kind of album that will only appeal to fans, but anyone who's ever doubted Zeppelin's power or vision will be set straight with this record.

Jerry Falwell Zapped By Led Zeppelin

The following story is courtesy of the Nypost.com : Jerry Falwell's choir once took on LED ZEPPELIN - and lost. In his new book, Falwell Inc., Forbes reporter Dirk Smillie reveals how the Moral Majority minister was conducting a recital of church hymns when the earsplitting chords of an electric guitar shook the room. "Falwell had booked his Christian sing-along just down the hall from t...

So as a class project, we I'm working in a group to do a presentation on live sound. My part of the team project is to research the history. In talking with an instructor here, he was telling me about the first Beattles concert he ever went to. They didn't have PA systems back then. The crowd yelled so loud that you couldn't hear John. So John started singing nonsense into the mic and nobody...

It has been so long since i previously listened to Led Zeppelin I almost feel nostalgic. Some great guitar work, but i am not wholly won over, an album that will only come up on "random". I guess I prefer the "heaver" metal like motorhead and Rage against the machine. That said "Black Dog" is still fun.

The guitar is a customized Gibson EDS 1275, BTW.I was reading about the Jimmy Page Gibson VOS and Aged Double-Neck guitars today. Wow. A replica of a piece of history – one you can hold in your hand for $8000 to $30,000. (Where are a new crop of gals and guys like Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix now? That's another subject for another day.)Problem is this: All those fabulous double-necks will be .

I was coming home after a weird but wonderful day at a manga expo. Seeing young teenagers dressed as Japanese superheroes was cute, seeing people in their early 20s dressed as superheroes was ummm, unusual, and watching a pale-skinned adult man taking photos of girls dressed in blue fur bikinis with cat ears and tails was distinctly creepy. We had just come out of the parking lot in Hammersmith...

Okay - *Stairway to Heaven* is the song that all the wankers *try* to play in the guitar shop to show off.I reckon that about fifty thousand music store employees are just about as tired as me of it.So, herewith, a few mutilated versions. We begin with my buddies, Dash Rip RockEither Bill Davis or Fred leBlanc (then in DRR, now leader of Cowboy Mouth) noticed a certain, shall we say, "similarity...

Led Zeppelin Covering Spirit????

Went to lunch yesterday with a salesman, doing work stuff that keeps food on my table. He brought up a story he proclaimed was true about a group somewhere who is trying to get Led Zeppelin kicked out of the R & R Hall of Fame because of the number of songs they've stolen over the years. Of note, they have allegedly "stolen" Stairway to Heaven" from the band Spirit!?I cannot even start to expre...

right now my brain is fried. ive been thinking a little bit about backwards masking or reverse speech. www.reversespeech.com describes this as "If human speech is recorded and played backwards, mixed amongst the gibberish at regular intervals can be heard very clear statements. These statements usually appear in short sentence form and are nearly always related to the forward speech. It appears...

As you may or may not know, I'm a Zeppelin Bootleg collector. Since I've conceptualized this category of mog posts, I've been sifting through my bootlegs to find an appropriate recording to really stand out. I finally decided to choose something from the 1970 era Zeppelin right before III came out. What better than to showcase a song off of III whose raw power has rarely been captured since thi...

Led Zep reunion blues

Boy am I kicking myself that I chose Battles over Robert Plant at the Green Man Festival last month. About the only chance I'll get to see any of the originals play Led Zep songs, Bob's band played Whole Lotta Love and Black Dog and from where I stood in the portaloo they sounded pretty damn good, made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up anyway. If I'd known then what I know now. 20millio...
