In the span of two years (2000-2002), the market was awash with various Lamont Dozier anthologies, and best-of compilations, all on various labels looking to cash in on the revitalized interest in the soul legend. And while Legendary Lamont Dozier: Soul Master is not the most comprehensive or most thorough release of the three greatest-hits, two anthologies, and one lost sessions disc, it does contain songs from many of Dozier's most important records (including "Fish Ain't Bitin'," and "Trying to Hold on to My Woman"), but neglects to include some of his biggest songs "("Why Can't We Be Lovers," and "Going Back to My Roots"). It's an adequate compilation that serves as an excellent supplement to any of the other greatest-hits releases, and only those looking to further quench their thirst for Dozier's signature sound will be fully satiated with the songs on this disc.
