i feel sort of sorry for john cage. i hadn't liked him either, when i first encountered him in my history of western music class and they played (of course) 4'33". it's his most famous piece, and it stands out. but i would rather have met him here, introduced by a nervous talk show host and welcomed with laughter... because here he seems a person to me. trying to do something new that we weren't ready for. resourceful and undaunted, he changes his piece immediat... Gorecki is a cool word. I don't know why but just the look of it. The way you say it. Its a word I like to say. Apparently its also the name of a classical composer. To me though it represents the song that captures how I feel about my wife. So much so, that we had it played when we got married. Unfortunately there was little we were in control of at our wedding so when we we left the church instead of striding out to this glorious anthem playing over the PA ... MORE

Now here's a group that really needs much more Mog love: Lamb. Here was my intro. to them: "B Line": I posted this vid before when I posted about the lead singer Lou Barlow's solo cd a few months back. I was in a Macy's dept. store & was passing through the young women's dept. on to somewhere else & this vid song was playing on their monitors. This album was my first encounter with Lamb. A well done remix album throughout, when many remix albums rely too heavily on tired conventions. I have since collected Lambs own work, as a good remix always sends me looking for the artists original work. Lamb gets full marks as well for their original work.

I never really got into Lamb. In the past ten years, about 90% of the mix discs that friends gave me had a Lamb song on them, and without fail the choice was always "Gorecki" or "Gabriel." Yawn. No wonder I never got into Lamb. Then one day when I was watching _Six Feet Under_ I heard a song called "Heaven," and I _had_ to know who was performing it... colour me shocked to discover it was Lamb!
